Assistant Vice President of Capital Giving

The Assistant VP for Capital Giving works in complete collaboration with the Assistant Vice Presidents of Alumnae Engagement and of Advancement Strategy. In addition, the AVP for Capital Giving will have a special collaborative relationship to the Chief of Transformational Gift Strategies. The AVP for Capital Giving is one of three most senior Advancement Team staff managers who are responsible for structuring the Advancement Operations annual tactical plans, aspirations, and budget for the division. S/he manages a team of six - nine in the areas of major gifts, planned gifts, corporate and foundation relations and Donor Relations. S/he aspires to grow the capacity of the Simmons donor base through targeted campus and regional events, advising lead volunteers and campus partners and by fully integrating major fundraising support across the Advancement Division. Two key responsibilities are the overseeing the development of an integrated, highly visible bequest program and partnering with academic leadership through the Chief of Transformational Strategies to strengthen Simmons's reputation as an institution worthy of national corporate and foundation support.
Work closely with the AVP of Transformation Gifts to ensure that stewardship of the institution's largest prospective donors supports transformational philanthropy.
Develop and implement performance metrics (and accompanying rewards) to produce best practice habits, both keystone and small, that significantly advance management goals.
Develop and implement routines that enhance cross-college networks to be enjoyed by Advancement staff in the achievement of advancement goals.

Essential Functions:
1. Implement and direct strategy for Capital Giving team by:
Working in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Presidents of Advancement Strategy on the proper alignment of major gift portfolios, attending to the prospect pipeline and monitoring gift officer progress using performance metrics;
Conducting regular strategy meetings with the Capital Giving team in collaboration with research and strategy teams;
Develop engagement plans for all donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship;
Setting annual fundraising goals based on pipeline development, institutional priorities, and donor interest;
Participating in all major gift strategy conversations;
Working with Chief of Transformational Strategies to involve institutional partners in the strategy for gift conversations (President, Provost, Deans, Faculty);
Serving as a leader and mentor to staff within the major gifts department and across Advancement;
Developing and executing a robust and visible fundraising program specifically focusing on planned giving and corporate and foundation relationships;
A facility with, and an affection for, a system of record in Raiser's Edge.

2. Grow fundraising capacity of the donor base by:
Fully integrating gift planning into every fundraising strategy, including bequests (intentions and realized), trusts, real estate and other property and all other vehicles for philanthropic support;
Working collaboratively with Advancement colleagues on the proper development and stewardship of the donor pipeline;
Identifying and cultivating opportunities outside of the traditional donor base, specifically through corporate and foundation support;
Achieving a full understanding of the stewardship process and the proper solicitation and use of major gift funds;
Collaborate effectively with other development directors and their staffs to achieve full integration of individual giving programs;
Fully integrating all methods of philanthropy (endowment, current-use, estate, cash and pledges) within the development of the annual strategy;
Assist in the strategy for future fundraising campaigns at the College, including, management of strategy with regard to infrastructure, volunteer structures, communications, stewardship, and general pipeline engagement; assisting in the creation of internal messaging and engagement structures and general policy and procedures related to gift giving; tracking and accountability for fund raising priorities and financial targets.

3. Independently manage a portfolio of select major donor prospects, corporate or foundation relationships in defined regional territories by:
Personal visits;
Creating strategy for use by lead volunteers;
Developing a detailed understanding of the funding needs and priorities of the College;
Demonstrating a commitment to, and understanding of, the history and alumnae/i of the College;
Developing and implementing strategies to move prospects through engagement pipeline with express purpose of securing significant financial support, and to improve overall cultivation and engagement of regional territories;
Representing the priorities of the College and the Advancement division in all internal and external contacts;
Collaborate with departmental peers and those in Annual Giving, Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Alumnae/i Relations on regional and prospect strategies; support the goals of the Planned Giving program; work with and support leadership volunteers.
