Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Organic Chemistry to begin in August 2020.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.
Essential Functions
-Teaching responsibilities include organic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses and other courses as assigned;
-Additional responsibilities include advising students for degree completion and career development, plus providing individual support during office hours;
-Faculty members are expected to contribute to department planning and growth;
-Maintaining an ongoing and active research agenda is required for obtaining tenure status with the university;
-Faculty members are also expected to participate in community service activities; -Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Ability to teach undergraduate organic chemistry courses;
-Knowledge in pedagogy and teaching techniques for first-time college students and students from underserved populations;
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Required Education
Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field
Required Work Experience
Preferred Qualifications
-Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry;
-Previous teaching experience and postdoctoral study
