Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW), Dreeben School of Education (DSE), offers an exciting opportunity for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus on Adult Education in the Department of Graduate Studies. We seek a colleague to join us in preparing reflective, transformative, innovative, and social justice-oriented educators, leaders, and scholars in the Adult Education (MA), and Adult Education, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Ph.D.) programs.

Essential Functions
This position begins in Fall 2020 and requires teaching face-to-face courses, conducting research, advising students, supervising research, and engaging in school and University service. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

-Evidence of adaptive methodological skills to work with diverse populations and multiple ways of knowing;
-Clear philosophy and vision on how to apply self-directed learning (SDL) in the classroom;
-Demonstrates an ethic of caring: genuinely interested in knowing the student as a whole person, and not just as an intellectual;
-Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues (staff, faculty, students) and community partners across disciplinary boundaries;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Doctoral degree with preparation in adult education or a related field

Required Work Experience
-Two (2) years practitioner and/or teaching experience as an adult educator in community, public, private, and/or university environment;
-Record of applied research and scholarship at the national or international levels;

Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in higher education and record of positive teaching evaluations
-Knowledge of community-based participatory research, action research, human-centered design, and other innovative methodologies;
-Record of refereed scholarship;
-Experience with/potential to build partnerships with community or work organizations;
-Strong foundation in and an ability to teach qualitative research courses;
-Interest in program, planning, development & evaluation;
-Record of mentoring and supervising graduate student research;
-Willingness to collaborate on research, publication, and professional presentations with students;
-Potential for obtaining and managing external funding;
-Experience designing courses and curriculum;
-Interest in the transformation of individuals and social systems;
-Interest in integrating teaching, research and service pertaining to important social justice issues, including, but not limited to:
o Womens issues
o Immigration and refugees
o Adult literacy
o Other pressing social justice challenges
