Job Description:
The ITS Instructional Technology Engineer (ITE) will utilize outstanding communication, technical, and project management skills, and an entrepreneurial approach to design, support and enrich the student learning experience and support faculty teaching place-based, hybrid and on-line classes in 165+ Registrar's and 300+ departmental classrooms. The ITE provides project leadership and audio and video technical design support to students, faculty, and staff, and includes project management, design, and the operation and maintenance of audio and video equipment installed in classroom presentation systems, and enterprise rich-media distribution systems.

The ITE will help coordinate operation, preventative maintenance, and just-in-time technical response support for campus facilities. The ITE is responsible for coordinating technology and accessibility support for Syracuse University events, and for lecture capture services. The ITE will work directly with IT instructional staff, managers, and the Director of Learning Environments to foster excellence in the technologies provided to faculty and students. The ITE will work collaboratively with other departments to enhance informal learning spaces such as computer labs, Makerspace, residence hall lounges and studio spaces.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Three (3+) plus years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • A broad knowledge of audio and video production equipment operation and distribution is essential as well as working knowledge of computer applications (including Microsoft Office and web based applications).
  • Good knowledge of web development tools and the WordPress platform.
  • Understanding of developing trends in presentation and media distribution technologies.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.


Responsibilities:
  • Implement technology based on design standards for Learning, Teaching, and Collaboration spaces used to build and maintain classrooms, seminar rooms, auditoriums, team rooms, and computer labs.
  • Work with engineers, construction managers, and faculty in partnership with internal and external groups including Campus Planning, Design, and Construction, Facility Services, Academic Affairs, schools and colleges, and other IT units. Provide project coordination with Instructional Technology Engineers and Consultants. Project scopes range from renovations to new building construction.
  • Provide and coordinate operational and technical support for University classroom spaces, computer laboratories, and the Makerspace. Operate, integrate and maintain classroom presentation systems including computing technology. Must be able to effectively maintain and troubleshoot classroom AV and computer systems and be familiar with hybrid and online teaching modalities. Set-up, connect and monitor the use of audio-visual equipment including cameras, computers, projectors, audio and video mixers for live and recorded situations. Installation, operations, support, and maintenance for printing infrastructure and specialty equipment.
