Research Scientist

About the Opportunity

Candidate should have a background and deep commitment to research in the areas of addictive behaviors, sexual health behavior and HIV prevention. Performs basic or applied research, primarily using existing theories and methods. Individuals should have the ability and desire to innovate when these are insufficient. Assists the supervisor with grants and in the interpretation and publication of results. Will take a leading role in data analysis and writing for some publications. Maintains the laboratory research team and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. As a secondary duty, will teach two classes per year in the Department of Public Health and Health Sciences.

Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology, study recruitment including in traditionally underrepresented populations, survey construction and collection, qualitative and quantitative data collection/management/analysis.
  • ability to communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers from different fields as part of multidisciplinary research teams are skills essential to the successful candidate.
  • Specifically, experience in community-based research among LGBTQ populations, adverse childhood experiences, and novel intervention development/testing is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in writing proposals and project management are pluses.
  • Must have Ph.D. or equivalent degree in psychology, public health or a related field and be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship, working under the supervision of a senior scholar. Must have prior teaching experience including as instructor of record
