Pasadena City College is hiring a full-time, tenure-track Psychologist to provide mental health services to students facing social and emotional challenges that impact their learning at Pasadena City College, commencing with the 2024-2025 academic year.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST: .

Provides brief psychological counseling to students with emotional, social and learning problems;
Provides crisis counseling as part of the clinical team's weekly rotation;
Participates as a member of the PCC Crisis Prevention And Response Team (C-PART);
Provides outreach to the campus community and forms relationship with key campus partners including (but not limited to): Disabled Student Programs & Services, the Veteran's Resource Center, Extended Opportunity Programs & Services, Pathways and other campus empowerment programs;
Provides case management services to help students connect to community partners in the provision of ongoing mental health care;
Provides group therapy as part of the brief therapy model (in congruence with the needs of the campus community and under the direction of the Lead Psychologist);
Serves as the back up to the Lead Psychologist in representing the Personal Counseling Department on college wide committees and at community and professional meetings;
Strictly adheres to the ethical principles of psychologists as promulgated by the American Psychological Association and the laws and regulation relating to the practice of psychology in California;
Serves as a lead for practicum doctoral psychology trainees and is part of the training team;
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)

AND

A valid license as a psychologist issued by the California State Board of Psychology

AND

Three years of post-doctorate experience offering brief therapy or psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and crisis intervention services.

Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. When equivalency is requested, the file will be reviewed by PCC's Equivalency Committee. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide ample documentation to support equivalent qualifications.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Competence in brief (short-term, solution-focused) psychological counseling
Applicant should have a background in working with underserved populations, including experience working with African-American/Black populations, Latino/a/x populations, LGBTQ populations, individuals on the Autism spectrum or with learning disabilities, or working with populations experiencing trauma.
Experience in the diagnosis and treatment of serious mental illness (in-patient and outpatient community mental health) and/or psychological services in a higher education institution. Experience as a clinical supervisor of pre-and-post- doctoral interns in clinical psychology.
Proficiency in a second language common to PCC students (e.g., Spanish, Chinese, or other language).
Sensitivity to diversity issues in a collegiate setting .

THE ASSIGNMENT:

Twelve Months, 100% - Tenure-track position.

The 40 hours per week assignment consists of 35 hours per week with five hours of professional activity, which can include campus committee involvement and professional growth. The work week is five days per week with some evening/night hours.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Successful completion of livescan clearance and TB screening
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109
Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member
Board of Trustees approval
