Job Summary

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics and closely related areas within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder. This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

Research areas of interest include those that fall within the broad scope of Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics. Preferred areas are experimental, computational and/or applied research with the potential to address resilience of future and existing structures, including but not limited to climate impacts on structural performance, climate-adaptive structures, rehabilitation or retrofit to extend the service life of existing structures, integration of sustainable materials in design, and/or structural design methods to achieve sustainability, circularity, or recovery-based performance targets. Candidates with research areas that connect structural engineering to other related disciplines, such as architectural engineering or geotechnical engineering, are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering's mission is the education of undergraduate and graduate students to become leaders in the professional practice of engineering, contributing to technological advances that benefit humankind while enhancing Earth's physical and biological resources. The education and research efforts of the department address planning, design, construction, and management of the built environment as well as in the interaction between the built and natural environment.

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering has 42 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 13 teaching faculty, and 3 research professors across six engineering specialty areas and four interdisciplinary areas. The Department is home to 400 undergraduate and 155 graduate students. The Civil Engineering program was in the top 20 undergraduate and the top 10 graduate public programs in 2025 according to U.S. News and World Report.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; develop an externally funded research program in their technical area; contribute professional leadership and service to their unit, the college, and their professional community; and cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.
The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service.

New faculty will join a department with a wide range of expertise addressing sustainable climate-resilient infrastructure, including expertise in building systems, environmental engineering, construction engineering and management, geotechnical engineering, and hydrology and water resources, generating collaborative efforts to address pressing challenges.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $105,000 - $122,000.
The full salary range for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor is $105,000 - $180,000, depending on rank.
Relocation assistance may be available within College and University guidelines.

What We Require

Applicants must have earned a research doctorate in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering, or related discipline; or have their degree conferred before starting a tenure-track faculty appointment.
Candidates being considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet University standards and unit criteria for tenure and promotion to the designated rank. These criteria generally include having an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, and a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.
