Job Description Summary
This is an 11 month position that will be assigned to the North County Campus Children's Center in Paso Robles.
DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Director of the Children's Center, plan, implement, and supervise the participation of children in developmentally appropriate activities in the Children's Center Early Childhood Education Laboratory School; model respectful, responsive, and reciprocal interactions with toddlers and preschoolers as part of the caregiving curriculum; and perform other related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this classification are distinguished from other positions in the instructional assistant class in that incumbents must be qualified and able to work with college students in a laboratory setting, as well as pre-school aged children.
This position supports and promotes student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by ensuring a quality program and services for children and their families and ensuring compliance with State licensing requirements.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the work of instructional aides and assist laboratory students in their assignments;
- Communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, other staff members and Early Childhood Education laboratory students;
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and follow universal health precautions;
- Maintain confidential records on children's progress and development, immunizations, and other material required by law;
- Plan, provide, and evaluate indoor and outdoor environments, activities, and routines which meet the needs of all children;
- Supervise and direct interaction with children in a positive manner;
- Develop and implement conflict management and problem solving strategies to be used with children;
- Plan, purchase, prepare, and serve nutritionally appropriate snacks;
- Represent the center, positively, to the community;
- Demonstrate awareness of cultural differences in early childhood education and parenting practices, and work to resolve these differences in ways that are acceptable to parents and staff;
- Hold conferences with parents regarding their child's development;
- Understand that sensitive observation and recording will result in an environment supportive of an emerging curriculum that adapts to the changing needs of children;
- Maintain current inventory of classroom supplies;
- Establish priorities, organize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time to effectively meet the goals of the program;

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required
- Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field;
- Three (3) semester units in Infant Toddler Caregiving from an accredited college or university;
- Possess or be eligible for a current California Child Development Permit at Teacher level or above.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
Experience:
Required
- One year experience working in an early childhood program.
Preferred
- Experience working in a college ECE laboratory school;
- Two years' experience working in an early childhood program;
Knowledge of:
- Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
- Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
- District policies and procedures.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Physical ability to:
- Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
- Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
- Bend and twist, push and pull, stoop, knew, crawl and climb
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Sit on floor and/or small tables and chairs;
- Lift and/or carry (50) pounds for the purpose of picking up and lifting a child; and
- Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
License and Certificates (current within the last year):
Required
- Possess current First Aid and CPR Certification;
- Current TB clearance; and
- Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's policies, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. - Salary Schedule Range: $4,465 - $5,427 per month.
