About the Opportunity
Job SummaryThe Associate Director of Residential Life, Community Standards and Staff Development will oversee all aspects of professional staff training and continuing education as well as develop and implement a community standard process that focuses on restorative principles and enhancing a student's connection and belonging with the University. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and educational environment that promotes student and staff success and well-being.The ideal candidate will be dedicated to student learning and innovative approaches to education. The Department of Residential Life supports over 11,000 students living on our Boston campus. Under the direction of the Senior Director, the Associate Director is a member of the department leadership team and provides oversight, support, and assistance to professional staff and students. The Associate Director will help develop departmental policy and decision-making functions for achieving departmental goals and objectives. They will be charged with coordinating and implementing departmental decisions and directives and will process and resolve student/parent/guardian or staff concerns. The Associate Director will oversee critical functions within Residential Life, including enhancing staff growth, developing departmental competencies for all team members, and enhancing opportunities for direct student engagement in the community standards process. The successful candidate will be student centered and work collaboratively with other members of the Residential Life team and across the division to develop an innovative residential program that supports the needs of today's dynamic learners. QualificationsMaster's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in residential life, student conduct, or a related area within higher education. Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, training, and development. Strong understanding of student conduct processes and restorative practices. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and foster an inclusive community. Experience with crisis management and emergency response in a residential setting.Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee the development and implementation of community standards within the residential community, ensuring alignment with university policies and practices.
- Serve as the primary coordinator for the residential student conduct process, including case management, by partnering with the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of professional staff members
- Lead the development and assessment of Residential Life programs related to staff development and community standards
- Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response protocols and procedures.
- Provide training and support to staff in crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and conflict navigation.
- Follow-up with students and families that are impacted as needed.
- Serve in an on-call rotation.
- Promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within Residential Life, ensuring that staff development and community standards efforts are inclusive and culturally responsive.
- Collaborate with campus partners, such as the Cultural and Spiritual Life team, to implement training, development programs, and conversations for staff.
