College/Department Information
The mission of the Augusta University Police Department is to promote a safe atmosphere in which the university's teaching, discovery, clinical care and service mission can be successful. This is accomplished through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership.
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the AVP/Chief of Police, provides professional direction, leadership and coordination of all security functions of the University. Oversees the integration of security systems, operations, and technologies designed to protect the safety of students, faculty, staff, and assets of the University community. Provides strategic leadership, consultation, and expertise related to the University's physical environment and security technologies and leads the development of work scopes, operational procedures, institutional policies, and overall strategic planning for the multifaceted, integrated security activities of the University. Internal to the Division of Public Safety and Police, the Director of Security is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of all aspects of security technologies, to include the operations of the department's Security Operations Center (Real-Time Crime Center). This position is considered a Campus Security Authority.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides leadership and coordination in the planning, development, implementation and operation of University-wide, integrated security system strategy, to include alarms, access control systems, video surveillance, technical platforms, physical hardware and other associated systems. Serves as a principal point of collaboration, leadership, and expertise to both internal and external constituencies on professional and operational matters pertaining to the mission, goals, objectives, and workscope of Augusta University's security program.
- Provides advanced technical leadership and direction to subordinate staff, University constituencies and community organizations and representatives within a broadly specified area of professional expertise, in accordance with program goals and objectives. Recommends, participates in the development of, and establishes University policy and procedures; establishes and implements short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvements.
- Participates as a member of the Public Safety and Police management team; provides input and subject matter expertise to departmental leadership regarding University security systems, technologies, and operations. Develops and manages annual budgets for the office and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses; plans and develops strategies and programs for generating revenues for operational use.
- Oversees all aspects of Public Safety and Police's internal technologies, specifically the daily operation of the Security Operations Center (Real-Time Crime Center) to ensure a seamless integration with Augusta University's broader security program.
- Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related field.
Required Experience
5 years of experience in private security, law enforcement, or related experience

A systems-focused thinker who can assess needs on a global scale and integrate them effectively in tandem with other campus entities
Breadth and depth of knowledge around safety, security, and law enforcement, with particular emphasis given to a higher education or other community-focused environments
Strong leadership and organizational development abilities that promote and inspire excellence, offer opportunities for professional development, and foster unity and teamwork throughout the Office of Security and Public Safety and Police.
A solid commitment to cultivating collaborative relationships and building partnerships across all levels of the institution and the surrounding community.
Certification in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)
ASIS Certified Physical Security Professional required within one year of employment
ASIS Certified Protection Professional desired

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: 15
Salary: $82,800.00/Annually - $105,600/Annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
