Position Description
Performs supervisory and participatory work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures. Responsibilities include the supervision of a work crew involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures. Duties also include the actual hands-on work in this area. Work is performed under the general supervision of the foreman with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise other assigned workers.
Major/Essential Functions
- Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain mechanical skills, technical qualifications and licensing requirements. Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency callback roster on a rotating basis. Monitors and supervises work site operation by periodic visits. Conducts safety inspection of assigned work center.
- Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
- Evaluates job or project materials requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Assists Foreman in planning, preparing and assigning work scheduled each week in accordance with priority guidance.
- Maintains required records of asbestos abatement operations. Records are maintained in accordance with all applicable governmental codes and regulations and will reflect 100% accuracy of required information.
- Assists Foreman in Planning abatement projects and submits to Asbestos Compliance group and Engineering Services. All plans must meet all applicable governmental codes and regulations.
- Monitors and verifies proper removal of asbestos contaminated materials and debris by direct supervision and observation of operations as required. Ensures 100% of contaminated material will be removed with no loss of friable material to environment.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Two years experience as a licensed journeyperson in designated trade; or five years related experience. Job-related vocational training or education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Must have a valid Asbestos Workers license.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervises and participates in the construction, erection and installation of asbestos containment tenting and negative air units as required and/or mandated. Responsibilities also include the co-ordination and supervision of subordinate workers as well as hands on work in the safe removal of asbestos containing material in all its forms and help to ensure that all regulations and safe practices are followed/adhered to. Provide operational control, direction and management over Insulation Shop workers in the proper installation and removal of thermal system insulation during maintenance, renovations, and new construction. Advises and updates supervisor on job/project status, operational and personnel problems and provide potential solutions.
