Job Summary
The KVCU Radio General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Radio Station, including the development, implementation, and management of processes consistent with the College of Media, Communication and Information strategies and processes, and the supervision of volunteer and student staff.
This position also supports student involvement and learning to establish and maintain radio station standard processes, facilitate collaborative and creative projects, and engage with the CU community broadly.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Staff Management and Student Teaching
- Ensure that volunteer staff are appointed, onboarded, and offboarded in accordance with standing University requirements, guidelines, and expectations.
- Provide supervision of all staff including day-to-day operations, performance planning and feedback, and compliance with all Station, College, and University policies and procedures.
- Foster and support student involvement in the Station and provide a professional environment where students gain expertise through hands-on experience.
- Mentor staff and students to establish and maintain radio station standard processes, facilitate collaborative and creative projects, and engage with the CU community broadly.
- In coordination with the Faculty Advisor, work with student volunteers with on-air content, community outreach, and coordination with university departments, instructors, and centers to support university initiatives.
- Supervise the coordination of station events, including hosting visitors and awareness-raising projects with the university, and working with university clubs and associations to develop projects and events.
- Collaborate with the Faculty Advisor to ensure that student work is submitted to regional and national media awards competitions.
- Coordinate with the CMCI Faculty Advisor, CMCI, and Student Affairs to establish and work within the annual operating budget of the Station.
- Coordinate with the Faculty Advisor to represent the Station to the University and its units, as well as the community at large to identify needs and goals and ensure that they are being met.
- Coordinate with the station engineer and the Faculty Advisor to ensure that the Station is in compliance with all FCC rules and regulations.
- Coordinate with the Faculty Advisor to develop a multi-year plan for the Station.
- Implement departmental curriculum where applicable.
- Grow the Station's public profile and audience, and help to track students for internships through station experience.
- Attract funding through donations and underwriting.
- Provide a high quality broadcast service to the Station's audience.
- Cultivate relationships with local community/public media outlets, as well as the national student radio landscape, through direct interaction as well as membership in and attendance at appropriate professional organizations and gatherings.
What You Should Know
This position will work in a hybrid format, primarily on site with some flexibility for remote work.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$73,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Three years of radio station administration experience.
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of FCC operations, license, and renewal procedures, as well as other federal, state and local broadcasting regulations.
- Experience working with and/or managing volunteer and/or student staff.
- Ability to oversee, coordinate, and support the execution of continuous broadcast schedules on a 24 hr a day, 7 days a week basis.
- Knowledge of public, community, and college radio principles, standards, organizational structures, workflows, systems, and operating procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to train others.
- Knowledge of current and developing trends in radio.
- Knowledge physical plant and safety considerations for radio communications facilities and distribution systems.
- Ability to create, compose, and edit written, audio, and video training, marketing, and strategic materials.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of technology/software resources used for audio editing, radio automation, and multimedia production.
- Working knowledge of website creation, editing, and correspondence.
