Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for two Leadership Support Training Managers! The positions are available at either the Manager or Senior Manager level and report to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Leadership Support and Programming (SVC), with strong connections to the training and development unit of Human Resources. The positions will design and deliver training programs that focus on the skills, behaviors, and practices critical to facilitating the individual, collective, and organizational capacity needed to create and support campus environments where everyone matters and all can thrive. The University's leadership approach draws heavily on the work of the University of Southern California's Pullias Center and shared equity leadership (Kezar at al., 2021).
Specific functions include researching, designing, delivering, and evaluating of new and/or existing training programs. These positions will focus on the higher-level competencies needed for University managers and leadership and will not address foundational or introductory topics such as language and definitions, implicit bias, or microaggressions, common to one-time, episodic or a-la-carte trainings. For example, a training program for first-time supervisors might address how they are capable of "busting bias" in a range of functions (e.g., performance appraisal, communications, talent acquisition); or, how experienced leaders can enact a shared equity leadership approach to address University strategic priorities, confront disparities, and honor myriad experiences and needs. These positions will establish trusting relationships and work closely with existing training units (e.g., Human Resources, the Center for Teaching and Learning) to examine the current landscape of training for CU Boulder; and revise and build new modules and experiences that align with the organization's goals.
Incumbents will apply the work done by the University of Southern California's Pullias Center alongside a range of competency models and frameworks (e.g., NASPA/ACPA Professional Competencies, Leadership Reconsidered, Multicultural Organizational Development) to develop transformational higher education leaders at every level of the institution who are capable of creating and supporting campus environments where everyone matters and all can thrive. This work will address the personal, collective, and structures and systems work needed to activate and sustain institutional change and transformation. This will require delivering courses, working with small groups to practice applying new knowledge, developing toolkits, providing feedback, assessing outcomes, and evaluating the process.
Ideal candidates for this role will demonstrate skill for developing leaders and working in large complex institutions. They should have deep knowledge and competence of higher education disparities and research with direct experience delivering and assessing trainings related to the following thematic areas: human-centered leadership; employee development; cultivating capacity for successful environmental change; and building foundational, liberatory leadership competencies. Successful candidates will be able to speak specifically to these experiences in their cover letter, application materials, and interviews.
The Leadership Support and Programming team values align with the shared equity leadership model. Examples of these values include transparency, vulnerability, accountability, mutuality, humility, love and care, courage, and creativity and innovation. We expect the incumbent(s) to demonstrate many of these values for shared equity leadership in their work (e.g., advising University managers and senior leadership, facilitating training and development workshops, interactions with fellow team members, constituents in the CU Boulder campus community, and members of the local, regional, and national communities).
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
