Location
Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.
Job Summary
Provides support and services to students with disabilities seeking accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Offers direct assistance to current and prospective students as well as to KSU faculty and staff, ensuring an inclusive and accessible educational environment.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Determines eligibility and identifies suitable and reasonable accommodations under federal law by engaging in an interactive process with students with disabilities.
2. Reviews and interprets medical, neuropsychological, and psychological diagnostic reports and other third-party documentation.
3. Performs individualized assessments of disability-related needs.
4. Maintains student caseload; facilitates meetings to address accommodation concerns between students and faculty.
5. Assists students with problem-solving skills and self-advocacy.
6. Maintains accurate and confidential records of student accommodations, resources offered, and proposed outcomes.
7. Works closely with other university departments to provide institutional resources, assistance, and guidance to overcome barriers to success for students with disabilities.
8. Utilizes data to inform decision-making and program improvements.
9. Collaborates and coordinates with faculty and other administrative areas, including student affairs, academic affairs, housing and residential life, and career planning and development, to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
10. Maintains current knowledge of best practices, legal mandates, and ongoing research and developments in disability access and inclusion in higher education.
11. Coordinates and facilitates workshops and training on student disability services, ADA, and the accommodation process.
12. Tracks provider services through assessment and evaluation.
13. Collects statistical data and develops semester, annual, and ad hoc reports as assigned.
14. Assists with other departmental functions and performs other duties as requested.
15. Provides support for other divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the department's scope, as requested.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a concentration in disability services, rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, education, or a related field
Required Experience
Two (2) years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
National Certified Counselor (NCC) and/or Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and/or relevant professional credentials
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Advanced degree with a concentration in disability services, rehabilitation counseling, and professional counseling
Preferred Experience
Experience developing and implementing accommodations for students with disabilities in secondary or post-secondary settings.
Experience providing support services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Ability to serve on university committees and work collaboratively with key areas to support persistence and graduation initiatives
Ability to successfully interact with a community comprised of individuals/groups from an array of backgrounds, experiences, and communication styles
Ability to recognize and protect confidential information and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy in handling sensitive information and situations.
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in federal and state laws and mandates related to higher education accessibility and provision of accommodations
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of disability and accessibility laws as well as appropriate academic accommodations
Knowledge and experience with Accommodate software and assistive technology
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
