Human Resources Associate 2 - Finance & Administration
University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI)
The University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) seeks a full-time Human Resources Associate 2 to provide critical support in employee benefits, recruitment, payroll administration, and HR record management. This position is responsible for coordinating and accurately executing various HR and finance-related functions, ensuring compliance with university policies and state regulations.
The Human Resources Associate 2 works closely with the Director of Finance & Administration, employees, and external agencies to manage HR operations, including the administration of time & labor, absence management, benefits enrollment, recruitment, and personnel records. The role also supports strategic HR initiatives to enhance employee engagement and organizational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Employee Benefits Administration: Serve as the primary contact for insurance, retirement plans, leave programs (FMLA, parental leave, workers' compensation), and special benefit enrollments. Coordinate on-campus benefits events, including retirement seminars, biometric screenings, and flu shot clinics.
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Facilitate staff recruitment, job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and hiring processes. Ensure compliance with EEO and accessibility regulations. Manage background checks and employment offers.
- Payroll & Absence Management: Process and audit biweekly payroll, track leave balances, and ensure compliance with UT policies. Train employees on time entry and absence tracking systems. Support the implementation of DASH payroll reporting in 2025.
- HR Records & Compliance: Maintain and secure personnel records, ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and university policies. Oversee probationary evaluations, staff training programs, and UT Educational Assistance applications.
- Additional HR & Finance Support: Serve as backup for payroll and employment functions. Oversee updates to the UTSI HR/Benefits website. Conduct petty cash audits for various UTSI units.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma with three (3) years of HR experience in benefits, recruiting, or payroll, OR a bachelor's degree with one (1) year of HR-related experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in academic HR operations, including hiring foreign nationals. SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
