Job Summary

Columbus State University (CSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Part-time Limited Term Director in the Office of Sponsored Programs. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to build and advance sponsored research and grant writing through engagement, collaboration, and innovation.

The Part-Time Limited Term Director is responsible for providing pre-award grant administration and general supervision of Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) staff. This position plays a crucial role in supporting faculty and staff in identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities, ensuring compliance with sponsor regulations, and overseeing the submission of grant proposals.

The individual in this role will utilize remote digital tools to oversee several key functions that impact OSP and CSU, including educating faculty and administration about grant opportunities and management, assisting with post-award grant administration, supporting compliance audits, developing manual and automated proposal and report tracking systems, and preparing routine and periodic reports (e.g., annual reports). The Director of OSP coordinates this work with appropriate university offices, including Business and Finance, Legal Affairs, and Institutional Research, to ensure the effective management of sponsored programs.

This position also provides supervisory oversight to two employees within OSP and facilitates collaboration between departments to support the university's external funding efforts. The individual in this role can apply for the permanent position once it becomes available.



Responsibilities

Pre-Award Grant Administration & Proposal Support
  • Assist faculty and staff in identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities, ensuring that proposals align with sponsor requirements and university policies.

  • Provide guidance throughout the grant application process, including proposal development, budget preparation, and submission.

  • Serve as a liaison between CSU and external funding agencies, ensuring all submissions meet federal, state, and institutional compliance standards.

  • Act as the university's Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) for grant submissions when required'

Grant Compliance, Audits, & Reporting
  • Ensure adherence to OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and other regulatory frameworks governing externally funded projects.

  • Assist in post-award grant management, including reviewing grant expenditures, compliance audits, and financial reconciliation in coordination with Business and Finance.

  • Develop and maintain manual and automated tracking systems to monitor grant proposals, submissions, and award activities.

  • Generate routine and periodic reports (e.g., annual reports) detailing grant activity, funding success rates, and compliance status for university leadership.


Office Supervision & Institutional Coordination
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Office of Sponsored Programs and provide supervisory oversight to two employees within the department.

  • Coordinate efforts with Business and Finance, Legal Affairs, Institutional Research, and other university offices to streamline processes related to grant administration.

  • Maintain up-to-date institutional records on sponsored projects, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility for reporting and decision-making.

  • Support faculty and staff with compliance-related inquiries and facilitate communication between internal stakeholders to promote efficient grant administration.


Education & Outreach on Grant Opportunities
  • Educate CSU faculty and administration about available funding sources, proposal submission processes, and best practices for securing external funding.

  • Disseminate grant-related information, including changes in federal regulations, new funding opportunities, and institutional policies related to grants management.

  • Provide guidance on ethical considerations and compliance related to research funding, including IRB protocols and financial conflict of interest policies.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in Accounting; or Associate's degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions;
  • Progressive leadership experience in project management and regulatory compliance management;
  • Strong attention to detail, financial management skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with grant/contract requirements;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and oversee compliance with all grant-related requirements;
  • Prior experience in contract and grant administration, including compliance with federal and state regulations;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, budget planning, and financial analysis with the ability to interpret and apply fiscal regulations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant advanced degree;
  • At least three years of experience in higher education sponsored projects, contracts, cooperative agreements, and grants administration, with a proven track record of success;
  • Broad working knowledge of federal grant funding policies, pre-award and post-award management, and compliance with agency regulations, including NSF, U.S. Department of Education, NIH, NEA, and NEH;
  • Familiarity with OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), cost principles, and audit requirements for federal awards;
  • Proficiency with Grants.gov, NSF Research.gov, NIH eRA Commons/ASSIST, and other online proposal submission and reporting mechanisms;
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA);
  • Experience with ERP systems like Banner and/or PeopleSoft;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex regulations to faculty, administrators, and staff;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.


Proposed Salary

$75/hr. The maximum hours for this position per week are 19 hours.
