Job Summary
Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Chief Academic Strategy Officer (CASO) will serve as a visionary leader tasked with executing on the academic strategic plan and direction of Columbus State University. The CASO will leverage data-driven insights and collaborative partnerships across the university and the region to advance the university's mission of delivering a transformative educational experience while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and regional impact. The CASO will work closely with all levels of academic leadership, staff, and faculty to advance initiatives focused on academic improvement, innovation, and efficiencies. The CASO will be responsible for advancing change management and building change accountability plans to ensure implementation across the academic system at Columbus State University.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic academic initiatives that align with the university's mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Employ root cause analysis and data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and inform evidence-based decision-making.
- Collaborate with university leadership, faculty, and staff to enhance academic programming and curriculum innovation to enhance student success and lead to improved graduation outcomes.
- Lead strategic academic transformation by utilizing data-driven insights to develop high-demand, high-quality degree programs that align with regional workforce needs. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources to support program success and institutional using decision-informed data that produce efficient and effective resources.
- Build and nurture professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering consensus and securing buy-in for strategic initiatives.
- Develop partnerships with industry leaders, governmental agencies, and community organizations to expand and innovate academic offerings.
- Lead data-driven informed efforts to assess academic performance and enhance educational outcomes.
- Serve as a liaison to other USG institutions interested in sharing and modeling successful strategies and initiatives.
- Represent the university in academic consortia, conferences, and strategic partnerships.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience in academic administration, preferably in a university setting or system level organization.
- Proven record of driving innovation that improves institutional growth and outcomes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- A strong understanding of higher education trends.
- Ability to foster collaboration across academic disciplines and administrative units.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Leadership, Higher Education, Business Administration).
- Extensive experience in higher education leadership, with a proven track record in strategic planning, fiscal operations, and academic affairs.
Proposed Salary
The proposed annualized salary range for this position is commensurate with education and experience, and includes full benefits.

Conditions of Employment
All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties:
- A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
- Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
- Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
