  1. Minimum of (6) six months of work experience in Fire Technology or Fire Service Training: hourly, volunteer, stipend, seasonal, part-time, and full-time experience acceptable.
  2. Graduation from a CA State Accredited Firefighter 1 Academy or possession of a Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Certification is highly desirable or completion within (6) six months of hire.
  3. An associate degree or certificate in Fire Technology or a closely related field or equivalent coursework.
  4. Provided evidence or examples of computer-related experience including Google, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Fire Simulation software.



Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas preferred:
  1. Train and furnish work direction to Fire Technology and Fire Academy instructional assistants.
  2. Assist in the preparation and tracking of the Fire Technology and Fire Academy instructional assistant's budget.
  3. Assist in the preparation of the Fire Technology and Fire Academy budget, monitor budget expenditures for instructional supplies, instructional equipment maintenance, instructional equipment purchases, instructional equipment servicing, and teaching assistants.
  4. Assist instructors, students, and staff in the use of a variety of equipment, materials, and supplies, such as maintenance of fire apparatus, firefighter Personal Protective Clothing (PPE), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers, ground ladders, chainsaws, forcible entry equipment, fire hose, nozzles, hand tools, wildland firefighting equipment, and other such items required for firefighter training and certification.
  5. Prepare and issue firefighting equipment to students, instructors, and staff.
  6. Maintain records of materials and equipment loaned to students and receive returned equipment.
  7. Research and obtain quotes to order instructional supplies and equipment used in firefighting training.
  8. Order, track, receive, and catalog equipment used in firefighting training.
  9. Prepare Firefighting training equipment for instructor demonstrations and student learning stations as requested and according to approved procedures through State Fire Training certification requirements.
  10. Construct and build wood fire service training props using a variety of tools.
  11. Test, adjust, and maintain apparatus and equipment, provide basic services, fueling, etc. for proper daily operation.
  12. Develop and maintain simulations for the Command Training Center (CTC), Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to computer software.
  13. Provide opportunities for student review and practice skills outside of designated Fire Technology courses.
  14. Develop and maintain filing systems for all student certifications through NWCG, IFSAC, SFT, CSTI, and FSTEP.
  15. Provide student outreach and recruitment for the FIPT Program, including regular tours, high school programs, local fire department, and use of social media.
  16. Maintain and repair fire academy props; order supplies to repair as necessary.
  17. Coordinate with vendors to maintain and service college air compressors.
  18. Assure classrooms, equipment, and facilities are prepared for proper use and function.
  19. Organize and coordinate specialized fire equipment for training at remote locations.
  20. Inspect and maintain equipment on a routine basis.
  21. Issue and ensure the return of academy equipment and apparatus.
  22. Perform maintenance and repair to ensure the safe and working order of equipment.
  23. Prepare a variety of records, files, and reports regarding equipment use and maintenance.
  24. Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions appropriate to keep abreast of new fire service equipment and technology.
  25. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
