Position Announcement
Under the direction of the Academic Tutoring Director, the Coordinator - Academic Tutoring assists with managing and mentoring assistant coordinators and student employees including hiring, scheduling, observing, and evaluating all Academic Tutoring tutors and lab assistant coordinators; managing the Academic lead tutor program which involves assigning lead tutor groups, meeting with lead tutors to ensure they have necessary resources to successfully mentor other tutors, and providing lead tutors with professional development opportunities; overseeing the tutor training program including preparing and giving trainings, creating and managing an online Canvas training course, and helping maintain the Academic Tutoring College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification; and collaborating with faculty and staff from various departments across the entire university.
Summary of Responsibilities
Assists with the planning, scheduling, and oversight of the Academic Tutoring tutoring program. Assists the Director with the selection, training, and supervision of tutors and assistant coordinators. Develops and maintains trainings, handouts, statistical data, course calendars, and other related documents for the program. Assists in oversight of Academic Tutoring locations across campus, including staffing, scheduling, and daily administrative operations. Develops initiatives that promote academic success across campus. Contributes to the efforts to increase awareness of Academic Tutoring services through marketing and event planning and participation. Assists in program assessment to evaluate effectiveness and ensure alignment with UVU vision and goals. Responsible for gathering data, compiling information, and preparing regular and semester reports on usage to help maintain strategic plan, assessment data, and program accreditation.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a directly related field of study and at least 1 year of learning center experience or a combination of education and experience totaling 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a directly related field of study and at least 1 year of learning center work or a combination of education and experience totaling 7 years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
Knowledge of and experience with tutoring and other student support programs, Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse student experiences in academic environments, Knowledge of best practices in learning centers including learning theories, pedagogy, and instructional design, Knowledge and experience with managing people.
Skills
Effective interpersonal communication skills, Skilled in coordinating and collaborating on promotional events and marketing, Skilled in the use of computers and computer applications (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Qualtrics, etc.), Skilled in research, analysis, and development to identify program needs, utilize available resources, and create positive program results.
