POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide professional reference services, instruction, and collection development for students, faculty, and staff in support of programs, courses, and the information needs of the College community.
OVERALL PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS:
Faculty librarians are expected to fulfill professional workload responsibilities, as per the Faculty Federation/Board of Trustees collective bargaining contract, faculty librarians are required to work no more than seven (7) hours per day. These normal workload responsibilities are exclusive of any teaching assignment unless the affected faculty librarian and supervisor mutually agree as to how the teaching duties shall be equated for purposes of determining workload.
Faculty librarians fulfill additional professional obligations and commitments within or outside of the thirty-five hours workload for professional contributions to the College and in accordance with the faculty librarian's interests and abilities.
REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP(S):
Direct reporting relationship to the Associate Dean, Learning Resources and Assessment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Workload and Professional Obligations:
Oversees all aspects of developing and maintaining the library's outreach and user services programs at the scope and caliber that best support the college's mission and academic programs.
Leads and coordinates development and implementation of the library's user services and outreach efforts.
Works closely with librarians and the college community to develop outreach programs and user services that further the library's mission and goals.
Serves as the primary contact with ITR to maintain the library's management system, proxy server, public computers and classroom computers.
Creates, maintains, and updates supplemental library learning tools.
Creates, plans, and oversees library programs, outreach, and book displays.
Works with Institutional Support Services and Communication and Marketing to promote the library and library resources, both for print and online.
Creates reports and extracts data from library software as needed by library staff.
Develops information literacy curriculum and/or credit-bearing courses.
Conducts collection development activities.
Maintains reference desk hours.
Serves the Library, College, and profession through participation in meetings, committee work, and task forces.
Assists in the development and implementation of the College's mission, goals, and strategic plan.
Performs other duties and tasks as needed to ensure normal operation of the library.
Professional Commitments:
Maintains an active interest in and knowledge of current practices and discoveries that affect learning resources.
Provides advice and support to student clubs and organizations and for other activities that help promote student involvement.
Participates in public and community service activities.
Participates in the professional advancement of the discipline and in professional growth and development opportunities.
Upholds the ethical standards and principles particular to the library, and contributes toward the advancement of the College.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science.
2. Two years professional Librarian Experience.
3. Strong oral, written and computer skills and a service orientation.
4. Ability to work and interact well with diverse students, faculty and staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience in reference, collection management and information literacy instruction.
2. Community college library experience.
