Accounting Assistant I


Nature of Work:
Involves both traditional office duties, cashiering duties, and accounting functions.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED with experience as a teller, retail sales cashier, handling and accounting for large sums of money; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience in the use of cash registers, adding machines, credit card machines.

Considerable knowledge of the methods of handling cash.

Ability to meet and serve the public tactfully and effectively and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations.

Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral or written instructions.

Must have good communication skills and ability to work with a variety of customers.

Must have the ability to meet deadlines, maintain accurate records, and produce timely reports.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in SCT/Banner student information system, Excel, and MS Word.

Essential Duties:
Cashiering duties include receipting funds through a computerized accounting system, posting fees, processing scholarship checks, assisting students with online payment systems and answering customer inquiries. Emphasis is placed on handling cash, checks and credit card payments.

Accounting functions include reconciliation of daily work, assisting with auditing student accounts, various financial transactions, mailing letters to students, and assisting in collection of past due accounts.

Salary: $13.20/hr $14.60/hr Salary commensurate with education and experience.
