Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Career Education Services, provides undergraduate and graduate students and alumnae/i with career education services that include individualized career coaching, group workshops and programs. They serve as project manager to incorporate career preparation into the classroom for both undergraduate and graduate programs. They assist in implementation of the 5 Step Career Development Model into the Simmons PLAN and graduate curriculum. They will work with faculty to integrate academic and career goals, create and develop career education classroom workshops and programs for internship and employment preparation. They will assist with the development and identification of online curriculum materials tools and identify and share the best career education resources with the CEC team.
Essential Functions:
Career Coaching:
Provide personalized career coaching for undergraduate and graduate students and alumnae/i that includes assessment and skill building exercises and tools to help them identify their abilities, talents, interests and personality characteristics in order to make informed, realistic and satisfying academic and career decisions.
Administer suite of on-line career inventory and evaluation tools.
Coach students on an individual and group basis regarding career planning, effective job search strategies and professional skills development.
Stay abreast of market trends and best practices in the career coaching field.
Mentor Peer Career Assistant (s) in career development process.
Project Manager for In-Classroom Career Programs:
Serve as liaison to undergraduate and graduate faculty and departments to identify career preparation and development needs for in-classroom workshops and programs.
Oversee and manage CEC in-classroom presentations by working with faculty and administration.
Develop a menu of skill development career preparation workshops that incorporates 5 Step Career Development Model. Coordinate the HUM 370 career preparation curriculum, course and evaluations:
Humanities 370 Course Administrator- Direct the development, evaluation, teaching, and assessment of student learning for HUM370, including course curriculum, scheduling classes, syllabus and course outline, student assignments, material development, course and student evaluations and e-learning site.
Monitor student and employer internship experiences and maintains ongoing contact with employers. Review employer evaluations to assess student learning and addresses issues.
Coordinate student performance reviews from course instructors and employers.
Prepare final summary and submit student assignments and internship evaluations to faculty advisor for course grade.
Liaison to Simmons PLAN for Year 2 and 3 - Simmons Course: Experience and Simmons Course: ExcelWork with Simmons PLAN team to integrate career curriculum and learning outcomes. Recommend career curriculum, and course materials to incorporate.
Career Curriculum Development:
Assist in creating career preparation learning curriculum and e-learning modules for undergraduate and graduate students.
Research state-of-the-art tools and recommend new ways of integrating into career coaching and teaching.
Assist in the development of curriculum for the Humanities internship course on pre-professional skills and teach classes.
Collaborate with coaching staff to develop the career content and learning outcomes for Simmons PLAN courses, Experience and Excel.
Assist the Director in providing career learning content for 2 U's nursing and social work students and for the development of a virtual career portal for the five Enterprise programs.
Presentations, Programs and Events:
Develop and implement presentations for student events such as orientation, admissions, alumnae/i events, career fairs, classroom visits, and other programs.
Measurably increase student participation by creating opportunities to engage students in career education events.
Promote the CEC within the college and to the greater community.
Professional Development Resources and Trends:
Maintain current knowledge of professional trends, resources, issues and best practices in the career education field.
Attend professional meetings at regional and national level and training as necessary to stay up-to-date career trends, use of technology and state-of-the-art career education learning tools. Research and report back on career education trends.
Requirements:
Master's degree in related field with at least 5 years experience in higher education or corporations with experience providing direct services to diverse populations.
