Assistant/Associate Professor in Interior Design (Tenure-Track)

Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, and collaborative colleague for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Interior Design for the 2020-2021 academic year. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with a 4/4 teaching load. The Interior Design Program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA).

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.



Essential Functions
Faculty members at the University are primarily engaged in teaching, scholarship (related to area of expertise), and professional activities. In addition, faculty engage in service to the program area, school, university, profession, and community. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, and working to advance the Interior Design program. Faculty help to engage interior design students with other departments, professional interior designers, and community and provide support to the UIW Interior Design program coordinator. Faculty work collaboratively with other departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met and that CIDA standards are met. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

-Ability to take initiative, work collaboratively in a team, and thrive in a demanding environment;
-Knowledge and understanding of CIDA standards;
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
-Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD and 3D modeling including but not limited to Google SketchUp with rendering plug-ins;
-Working knowledge of construction documents;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

Required Education
Masters degree in Interior Design or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education

Required Work Experience
-Demonstrated teaching experience (4+ years) in higher education with a record of scholarship in Interior Design with the ability to relate course content to both the design and CIDA outcomes and assessment;
-Four (4) years of professional experience in the field of Interior Design

Preferred Qualifications
-Maintained record of scholarship and demonstrated teaching experience at the higher education level;
-Record of student engagement with community;
-Residential and commercial design work experience;
-Working knowledge of Revit

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
-National Council of Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) Certified. Applicants in the process of becoming NCIDQ Certified may apply. Must have completion of the majority of NCIDQ prior to August 2020 and be NCIDQ Certified within two years of hire.
-Must be an active member of IDEC, ASID, or IIDA.
