About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Customer Experience, and working collaboratively with the Dean and Student Financial Services management team, the Associate Director for Scholarships leads and manages all aspects of special scholarship, endowed fund and annual gift awarding, and assists with monitoring, managing, and improving student and customer satisfaction and success. Working with colleagues across the Enrollment Management division, the Associate Director researches, proposes, implements and assesses awarding strategies, special scholar recruitment and retention efforts, and assists in the implementation and management of new student service and support initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Serving as the chief steward of endowed and gifted funds for Student Financial Services, the Associate Director works closely with Advancement and the colleges to ensure accurate awarding and reporting of all endowed and gifted funds. The Associate Director is responsible for the timely awarding, record keeping and reporting of more than $45M annually in special scholarships, endowed funds and annual gift awards. The Associate Director develops and maintains relationships with external scholarship programs and promotes external scholarship opportunities for and to Northeastern students. The Associate Director is responsible for the accurate awarding, record keeping and compliance of more than $5M annually in external scholarship funding for Northeastern students. The Associate Director oversees the Presidential Global Scholars program. Working with partners across the University, the Associate Director promotes, evaluates applications and distributes more than $1M annually in Presidential Global Scholars awards. Working with Undergraduate Admissions, City and Community Affairs, Public Affairs and other University offices, the Associate Director leads efforts to recruit and retain qualified students from the city of Boston. The Associate Director tracks aid awards for Boston students and, working with the Senior Director and Director of Financial Aid and the Dean of Student Financial Services, represents Student Financial Services in collaborative efforts to ensure all commitments to Boston students are met on an annual basis.
The Associate Director hires, trains, and supervises the Assistant Director for Scholarships and other staff, counselors, and assistant directors within Student Financial Services, as assigned. The Associate Director trains Student Financial Services, Admissions and Enrollment Management Contact Center staff on policies and procedures relating to the administration and processing of endowed and special scholarships as well as on compliance and training needs related to an expanded and improved service model. Serving as a member of the Student Financial Services management team, the Associate Director assists with implementing new initiatives, policies, and programs across the Student Financial Services and Enrollment Management units and will assist in optimizing technology and data analysis to improve student experience, satisfaction, and success. The Associate Director advises and counsels prospective and enrolled students and families on the availability of financial aid and the delivery process for receiving it. The Associate Director reviews student applications, performs verification, reviews/evaluates appeals and intercedes for students with other University departments. The Associate Director represents the University at on and off-campus recruiting events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; Master's preferred. Five to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a financial aid office. Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred. Must have a high level of customer service skills and attention to detail. Experience using PowerFAIDS preferred. Demonstrated success working with a diverse student population. Experience with project management. Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, organize time and work under pressure and deliver quality outcomes on time. Commitment to excellence in student service. Ability to use Microsoft Access, Excel and Word to aggregate data, create appropriate internal and public communications, and produce management reports as needed. Strong written and verbal communications skills, in one to one and large group situations.
