The mission of the Campus Planning and Real Estate department is to connect people, space, and resources to prepare the university to thrive in the future.

The Campus Planning and Real Estate Department is seeking a Real Estate Planner to take on varied assignments in support of physical growth and change on the Northeastern campus. The Real Estate Planner works as part of a team to develop strategies to support the University's growth through the deployment of real estate assets in Boston and in the university's growing global network.

Responsibilities:
The Real Estate Planner will collaborate with university stakeholders to develop real estate approaches to deliver on the university vision. With a keen understanding of real estate markets , the Real Estate Planner will identify and assess options to meet changing space needs. The Planner will assess and understand both the physical, locational, and economic costs and benefits of various options and be able to clearly communicate these differences. The Real Estate Planner will develop strategies to maintain and enhance flexibility for all campus markets, but particularly the expanding global network of campuses which currently include Seattle, WA, San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Charlotte, NC, Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, and London, UK.

The Real Estate Planner will play a key role in directing and cultivating partnerships with real estate developers. Current work includes a partnership for private student housing requiring knowledge of proformas and deal structures. Real estate planning also contemplates that a significant number of student beds will be replaced and the Real Estate Planner will support senior leadership in overseeing the effort to dispose of existing housing assets and extract from leases to position the university to deliver a high quality student experience while maximizing the university's financial position. The Real Estate Planner will also work with university stakeholders to assess options for other partnership opportunities and potential initiatives as faculty housing and student housing.

The Real Estate Planner will develop communication materials to inform senior leadership of opportunities, progress, and options for critical decisions. The Real Estate Planner will collaborate closely with the department's Campus Planners to understand space needs and the growth trajectory to create a long-term real estate approach for transformation of the university in multiple markets. The Real Estate Planner will serve as the primary connection to the department's real estate business directors with whom the Planner will collaborate to implement the preferred strategies.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, real estate, project management, or business administration, or a related field, Master's degree preferred. A minimum of seven years of experience in real estate planning and/or project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Strong communication skills. Ability to employ data, provide thoughtful analysis, and create compelling communication materials. Must think strategically about options, understand the institutional framework, and identify costs and benefits and pros and cons of options. Ability to assess the adaptability of space and understand order of magnitude cost parameters for renovation of existing structures. Experience navigating institutions, particularly as related to business analysis and materials. Able to work at a quick pace and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work both on a team and with a high level of independence, as the situation requires. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work effectively with faculty, vendors, staff and public officials at all levels to achieve outcomes.
