About the Opportunity:
The Center on Crime and Community Resilience (CCR) at Northeastern University seeks a skilled manager to oversee several of the Center's criminal justice projects, as well as develop relationships with Directors of state and local government agencies in Massachusetts and other places as the Senior Project Manager, Criminal Justice Policy.
Responsibilities:
A significant portion of the Senior Project Manager's work will involve providing project oversight support to CCR's ongoing efforts. This will include outreach and engagement work on Center projects, including the Center's ongoing work in developing productive responses to the opioid epidemic, developing work around investigating illegal gun markets, or new projects undertaken in collaboration with different criminal justice agencies. This work will require experience interacting with high-level stakeholders in partner agencies. As part of this, the Senior Project Manager will work with the Director and the Executive Director/Program Manager to launch new projects that can develop insights into promoting community safety and resilience.
The Senior Project Manager will also be responsible for overseeing and developing the Center's relationships with partners in state and local government. These partners include directors of Boston city agencies, command staff at police departments in Massachusetts and other states, and leaders of criminal justice agencies such as Attorney General offices and county prosecutors. The Senior Manager will also assist in developing the CCR's overall government outreach strategy.
The position would also provide an opportunity to collaborate with other team members on domestic and international projects, including upcoming work in Mexico and the Caribbean.
This is a full time position at Northeastern University in Boston and is eligible for Northeastern benefits, and will report to the Executive Director/Program Officer of the CCR.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Criminal Justice or a similar field (Master's preferred), with significant knowledge and background related to public policy around crime, violence and criminal justice issues.
Experience: 5-10 years of work experience in city or state government and crime-policy roles. Experience working directly with police department command-level staff and director-level is preferred. Experience working on projects related to evaluation is preferred.
Skills: A solid understanding of how local law enforcement agencies and government services function. Strong professional written and verbal proficiency in English and an understanding of how to communicate policy lessons from technical academic research in ways that policymakers and practitioners understand.
