Position Summary:
The University of Idaho, Idaho Falls Center, in collaboration with the UI Department of Natural Resources and Society (NRS), UI Environmental Science Program, and Idaho National Laboratory, invite applications to join our team in an academic year (nine-month), tenure-track faculty position as assistant or associate professor in Energy and Industrial Ecology. We seek entrepreneurial team players with research expertise relevant to industrial ecology, environmental and/or social dimensions of energy, social-ecological energy systems, energy policy and economics, or related fields. Candidates should have expertise in developing and applying theories, concepts and methods in the social and biophysical sciences to the study of energy and society. This appointment will include responsibilities for teaching/advising (45%), research (45%) and outreach/service (10%). The position is located at the University campus in Idaho Falls, Idaho with the expectation of collaboration with the Idaho National Laboratory, UI Policy Analysis Group, and various academic and stakeholder partners throughout the state, region, and nation. We welcome candidates whose work engages with historically underrepresented communities.


Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must 1) hold a Ph.D. in a discipline related to the research and teaching themes such as Industrial ecology, environmental and/or social dimensions of energy, social-ecological energy systems, energy policy and economics or a related field. 2) demonstrate experience publishing research related to these topics in refereed journals, 3) demonstrate a capacity to teach graduate and undergraduate courses using effective and innovative teaching approaches, 4) demonstrate potential to develop a research program that is both relevant statewide and recognized nationally, including the capacity to obtain external grants, and 5) demonstrate oral and written communication skills relevant to scientific and management audiences. The level of experience will be evaluated at a level appropriate to the position rank indicated by the applicant.


Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should have 1) the ability to build teams and collaborate across diverse disciplines, 2) experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of data; 3) experience conducting integrated research and outreach with national laboratories and diverse stakeholder groups, 4) demonstrated ability to secure external grant funding for research, 5) ability to develop and maintain collaborations and partnerships across campuses and federal programs. The level of experience will be evaluated at a level appropriate to the position rank indicated by the applicant.
