Augusta University College of Nursing has excellent opportunities for nurses to be part of an innovative partnership that has been developed between the East Central Regional Hospital and Augusta University. East Central Regional Hospital is a state operated psychiatric facility with two campuses. The Augusta Campus is a psychiatric hospital that provides care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The Gracewood Campus is an ICF/IID and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) that provides care and services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The nurses will be part of an inter-professional, psychiatric/mental health team that includes staff and advanced practice nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and direct care staff. Job Summary

Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and provides assigned patient care within the general policies, philosophy and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the hospital. Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to special treatment procedures for precautions, seclusions, restraints, elopements, close observations, and patient/environment searches. Responsible for interdepartmental communication and problem solving to assure smooth functioning of department. Responsible for compliance with all federal state and Regulatory requirements. Communicating with both internal and external professionals regarding patient disposition. Takes leadership role in assuring supportive environment for student learning. Promotes professional development of self and staff. Is a member of the Nurse Executive team and is assigned responsibility for the provision of quality patient care for individuals admitted to the nursing unit. Under general supervision of the nurse executive, will design staffing plans and manage the personnel resources of the department. Acts as the clinical nurse expert for the interdisciplinary treatment team and assures nursing contributions to all levels of treatment team activities.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assists Nurse Manager with overall responsibility for the nursing services of the assigned clinical unit. Assures provision of quality patient care services. Assures compliance with all policies and procedures. Promotes interprofessional collaboration and communication in assuming client centered care. Articulates and supports nursing role as member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Assures and maintains standards of care that are current and reflective of nationally agreed guidelines. Assists Nurse Manager with staffing plans, schedules, and assures provision of adequate levels of staff to meet identified needs. Recruits, interviews, and selects candidates for all nursing service positions. Assures fair and reasonable enforcement of Human Resource policies and procedures. Assists Nurse Manager with utilizing systematic processes for monitoring, guiding, and evaluating competencies and performance of staff. Promotes professional growth and development of all levels of staff supervised. Coaches staff for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Supports career development for all levels of staff. Assists Nurse Manager with ensuring a culture of safety through interpretation, implementation and monitoring of safety practices, policies, and procedures. Participates in hospital wide and unit continuous quality performance initiatives as assigned. Conducts purposeful patient rounds in accordance with unit requirements and accurately documents patient observations. Modifies milieu according to developmental needs of the patients in collaboration with Treatment Team and charge nurse. Assures staff awareness of safety issues to ensure a culture of safety. Assists Nurse Manager with assuring the selection provision and control of material resources. Establishing procedures to assure proper use and prevent misuse of equipment. Assists Nurse Manager with maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and attending care related seminars and conferences and educational offerings. Applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of all responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Associates degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university AND Minimum of one year of related clinical and/or management experience. Current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia AND Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience in psychiatric nursing. Knowledge of nursing theory, management theory and practice. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Excellent evaluation, decision-making, prioritizing, delegation, and time management skills. Ability to problem solve in an unpredictable environment and assess patient's condition and make sound, independent decisions. Knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Knowledge of management theory and practice. Experience in psychiatric nursing. Skills in evaluation, decision-making, prioritizing, delegation, and time management. Strong communication skills. Ability to problem solve in an unpredictable environment.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/Evenings/Nights (8 and 12 hour shifts available); Rotating weekends.

Pay Band: 14

Salary: $40.55/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
