Job Summary
Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga or mind-body disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants, set up, safety, execution, and more. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun.
Responsibilities
- Leads energizing, fun, safe and educational group classes to accomplish the Campus Recreation Department mission and goals.
- Creates a welcoming class environment for all fitness levels and encourages and motivates class members.
- Answers questions from participants to support them in achieving their healthy living and wellness goals.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members, helps others connect with one another and to the community.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Maintain the Group Fitness equipment and rooms.
- Attends required trainings, workshops, continuing education credit trainings, and staff meetings.
- Participates in master classes, in-house trainings, supports campus initiatives lead by Campus Recreation as well as other special events.
- Follows Campus Recreation policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- National fitness certification (ACE, ACSM, AFAA or equivalent)
- Has current CPR/AED certification or can acquire within 90 days of hire
- Prior experience teaching/leading group classes
- Knowledge in a variety of Group Fitness classes
- Have current certification(s) for specific class format
- Knowledge of strength training and cardiovascular exercise
Proposed Salary
Salary is based on experience. $15-$20/hour

- Ability to conduct safe and effective classes
- Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of Group Fitness
- Good communication skills
- Able to work a minimum number of hours/week (recommended 2 classes) on a set schedule
- Able to attend Fall and/or Spring Program Area Trainings
- Able to lift 50+ lbs.
- Must adhere to Campus Recreation and University policies and procedures
- Must be reliable and dependable
- Ability to participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's)

Conditions of Employment

- A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
- Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
- Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
