General Statement

Provide excellent customer service and general accounting support of student receivables in a fast paced environment. Process, maintain and reconcile subsidiary accounts related to student receivables to include various third-party receivables. Accountant I will assist the Student Accounts Manager in monitoring and maintaining student accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Excellent customer service skills and extreme attention to detail. A front line position interacting with students, parents, third party vendors and other offices on campus on a daily basis year round. Assist students daily with questions. Research student accounts in the Student Billing, Registrar, and Financial Aid modules in Jenzabar/CX to resolve discrepancies with student accounts.
  • Monitor, maintain, process and reconcile all third-party and grant funded accounts receivable records to include but not limited to Mass Rehabilitation, Veteran Administration, miscellaneous military and MEFA/Uplan. This will include working closely with other offices within the college, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, entering awards to financial aid entry, preparing and sending invoices for payment, posting payments to student accounts, reconciling outstanding accounts receivable balances, and monitoring credit balances of third-party payments for the proper refund action. Will train as back up for additional third-party billing.
  • Assist the Student Accounts Manager in the process of class drop for non-payment in a timely manner according to college policy.
  • Assist in the due diligence process according to college and state policies and add contacts to student accounts.
  • Place holds on and remove holds from student accounts according to policy.
  • Assisting with scanning student documents and linking documents to specific student accounts as needed into ImageNow, the college's document scanning system.
  • Process daily deposits to revenue accounts in Jenzabar/CX for both student and non student accounts.
  • Daily monitoring of third-party student payment system to include E-Checks, credit card payments, bounced checks and credit card refunds.
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and
  • out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in accounting or auditing, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required (A) experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:
  • An Associate's or higher with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required (A) experience.*
  • Successfully completed education in accounting or business administration in a recognized business school or school of accounting may be substituted for the required (A) experience on the basis of one year of such education above the high school level for six (6) months of the required (A) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Note: No substitution will be permitted for the required (B) experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or higher in Accounting
  • 2 years accounting experience in an office environment
  • MS Office experience with a proficiency in Excel
  • Higher Education experience
  • Bank teller or cashiering experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Third Party Billing experience
