Job Description:
The Assistant Director provides support that is critical to the mission of the Center for Policy Research (CPR). The Assistant Director serves as project manager for grant proposals, partnering with principal investigators to anticipate & resolve administrative challenges that may arise throughout the grant proposal process, preparing proposal budgets in accordance with funding requirements, interpreting sponsor-specific regulations, guidelines, & systems, & ensuring complete and on-time submission. The Assistant Director achieves these objectives by collaborating with, and acting as the liaison between, multiple stakeholders including Syracuse University Office of Sponsored Programs, principal investigators, and collaborators across campus and other universities. The Assistant Director also serves as administrative support for the Maxwell X Lab, Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion & Population Health, & Center for Policy Design and Governance. The Assistant Director oversees coordination of CPR internal & public-facing events. The Assistant Director collaborates with the Associate Director to oversee day-to-day operations of the Center, including managing & training staff, processing payroll, & approving fiscal transactions.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the submission of all faculty and student grant proposals within the Center for Policy Research.
  • Work independently with faculty, students, and the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure complete and on-time submissions.
  • As lead communicator throughout proposal preparation, act as the liaison between stakeholders across SU as well as outside universities and institutions.
  • Develop project budgets considering sponsor and University policies, navigate sponsor submission systems, interpret sponsor guidelines and University policies and procedures necessary to comply with Federal, State, University, and sponsor regulations and guide Internal Routing & Review form data and approvals.
  • Provide budgetary support and fiscal administration to CPR affiliated Centers 'The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and Population Health, the Maxwell X Lab, and the Center for Policy Design and Governance.
  • Manage the planning and implementation New York Camp Econometrics and the Paul Volcker Lecture in Behavioral Economics.
  • Oversee additional CPR events such as the Herbert Lourie Memorial Lecture, the CPR Seminar Series, and CPR s What's at Stake Panel Series.
  • Assist the Associate Director in running day-to-day operations of CPR. This includes training new staff hires, making staff decisions, approving payroll, and managing staff in the Associate Director's absence.
