Position Summary:
The Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science at the University of Idaho is seeking to hire a new tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor level. We seek a statistician to establish strong research programs that build on existing or complementary strengths within the department and College of Science. We are looking for a faculty member with broad expertise in statistics with interests in theoretical or applied research. They will have opportunities to mentor students in the BS and MS programs in statistics, and doctoral students in the mathematics or bioinformatics and computational biology programs. The University of Idaho places a high priority on increasing faculty diversity, and we are committed to hiring, supporting, and retaining a diverse team of researchers.

Instructional duties typically include teaching two three-credit hours courses per semester at undergraduate and/or graduate level. These courses support university-wide statistics education, and Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs in statistics.

Scholarship duties include conducting research in statistics, disseminating research through publications in refereed professional journals, and seeking external funding to support research activities. Service duties include serving on committees.

Outreach duties include participating in activities related to community involvement and serving the professional statistics community through scholarship.
Candidates with research interests and expertise that may complement research activities in other disciplines at the University of Idaho are encouraged to apply. Current and emerging research projects include but are not limited to human health, infectious disease (particularly airborne and vector-borne), bioinformatics, biomechanics and biomaterials, environmental and climate science, water resources, animal ecology, forestry and wildfires, and sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in statistics or a closely related field.
  • Record of research activity in statistics.
  • Teaching experience or a teaching or research assistantship at the college level.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of productive post-doctoral experience.
  • Teaching experience, or teaching assistantship, or demonstrable ability to successfully teach at the college level.
  • Ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics.
  • Ability to engage in collaborative multidisciplinary research with extant and emerging research at the university.
  • Evidence of potential to acquire external funding.
