The Director of Compensation and Benefits leads and coordinates compensation and benefits activities for the UTC Office of Human Resources (HR), which includes employee benefits, employee wellness, workers compensation, leave of absences, staff position description classifications/compensation, market salary studies and other compensation and benefits related functions. The Director also serves as a member of the HR leadership team and reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources within the Division of Finance and Administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compensation Administration
- Provides consultation to campus regarding compensation policies and procedures
- Provides direction and leadership to all stakeholders in the implementation of compensation programs and strategies based on research and analysis of competitive compensation practices
- Ensures compensation programs enhance UTC's ability to recruit and retain talent
- Participates in compensation surveys and conducts local, regional, or national compensation equity reviews to provide consultation to campus leadership and hiring managers
- Ensures compensation programs and practices are in compliance with university policies, as well as state and federal and state regulations
- Collaborates with HR leadership to conduct annual campus-wide compensation analyses for faculty and staff positions
- Supervises compensation administration team members
Employee Benefits Administration
- Provides leadership of benefits administration services to collaboratively provide consultation to campus regarding benefits offerings, applicable policies and procedures, and resolve employee questions or concerns
- Collaborates with UT System administration to ensure campus adherence to policies and procedures and proactively communicate important information to stakeholders
- Remains current on trends and best practices in the field of employee benefits administration to recommend process improvements and enhance communication to stakeholders
- Supervises benefits administration team members
Employee Wellness
- Provides leadership to employee wellness and leaves of absences services, which includes campus wellness initiatives, behavioral intervention responses and employee support, workers' compensation, sick leave bank, all leaves of absence types, long/short-term disability procedures, ADA accommodations, etc.
- Collaborates with UT System administration to ensure campus adherence to policies and procedures and actively communicate information to campus stakeholders
- Remains current on trends and best practices in the field of employee wellness to recommend process improvements and enhance communication to stakeholders
- Supervises employee wellness administration team members
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as active listening skills

Must have demonstrated competence in the areas of compensation, benefits, leaves of absences and process improvement

Must be able to translate research and statistical analyses into practical terms

Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Microsoft Outlook required

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, HR, psychology or related field; a minimum of four years of experience in both compensation and benefits administration with a minimum of two years of experience in management of related functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree; HR related certification including PHR, SHRM-CP, CEBS, World at Work, etc.; and three or more years in leadership of compensation and benefits administration are preferred.
