Description
Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry
Department of Chemistry
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
The Department of Chemistry & Physics at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Analytical Chemistry beginning August 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, or a related field, by the start date and have a background in a variety of modern chemical instrumentation techniques. Teaching experience is advantageous and postdoctoral research experience is strongly preferred. The candidate will primarily teach lecture and laboratory courses in analytical chemistry (e.g., quantitative and instrumental analysis) and will contribute to general chemistry as needed. Preference will be given to those with expertise in bioanalytical chemistry. Potential exists to contribute to the biochemistry curriculum such as the development of a new instrumental-related course. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a productive undergraduate research program, with collaborative possibilities within campus and in the community, including, but not limited to, the UT College of Medicine Chattanooga and the UTC Research Institute. Other responsibilities include instrument maintenance and advising biochemistry majors.
Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction, and in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan. The Department of Chemistry and Physics at UTC comprises 22 (16 Chemistry and 6 Physics) faculty members and is approved by the American Chemical Society. The department has approximately 150 chemistry and biochemistry majors, mostly in the biochemistry track, and is noted for excellence in undergraduate education and research, including a ten-week summer research program (see https://www.utc.edu/chemistry-physics/).
Applicants must submit the application in a single PDF file electronically through the UTC Faculty Career Site.
The PDF application file name must follow the format of "First name Last name Application" (e.g., Jane Smith Application).
The application must include:
1) a letter of interest;
2) current curriculum vitae (on the last page, please include names, titles, and email addresses for three professional references for confidential letters of recommendation to be requested);
3) undergraduate transcript and graduate transcripts;
4) one-page statement of teaching philosophy;
5) a description of research interests that include undergraduate students (no more than 3 pages).
Complete applications received by November 30, 2024 will receive full consideration. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
