Job Summary
The Coordinator of Research Computing is responsible for overseeing the operations of a high-performance computing (HPC) environment and providing technical support to researchers. This role involves managing a small team of system administrators, maintaining HPC infrastructure, and collaborating with IT and research teams to optimize computing resources.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of system administrators, delegating tasks, providing guidance, and evaluating performance
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide timely solutions
- Work closely with researchers to understand their computational needs and identify opportunities for optimization
- Collaborate with other research computing professionals to share knowledge and best practices
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in HPC technologies and data analysis tools
- Manage and maintain HPC systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations
- Ensure system security and data privacy
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate HPC resources into the broader IT infrastructure
- Provide technical support and guidance to researchers on HPC usage and data analysis tools
- Develop and deliver training programs and workshops on HPC topics
- Assist researchers in optimizing their computational workflows
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
Required Experience
- Experience with Linux administration and HPC systems
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Preferred Experience
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Knowledge of data analysis tools and libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, SciPy)
- Experience in conducting or assisting with academic research
- Familiarity with HPC cluster management software (e.g., Slurm, PBS Pro)
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with Experience
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
