Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Strategic Engagement, the Senior Director of Executive Events and Experiences plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Utah Valley University by creating engaging and meaningful events and experiences for donors, alumni, and other members of the UVU community. This position holds primary responsibility for all signature executive events associated with Institutional Advancement, as well as additional events in collaboration with the Office of the President and other high-priority initiatives determined by the university's tier system.
The Senior Director will collaborate with UVU's fundraising units, departments, and partners to coordinate experiential opportunities-such as donor trips, board member events, athletic experiences, and Presidential engagements-that strengthen relationships and build affinity between participants and the university.
In addition to event production, the Senior Director will provide leadership and mentorship to the Executive Events team, fostering professional growth and a culture of collaboration. A key focus will be on developing and supporting team members to achieve excellence in their work. The role also involves ensuring that all Institutional Advancement events meet the highest standards and offering guidance for other high-profile functions where the Executive Events team is not the lead.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and strategic guidance for all executive events. Creates, supports, and fosters excellent experiences for guests demonstrating excellent care. Leads strategy, implements plans, communicates objectives, maintains budgets, and reports on key performance indicators for all Presidential, Donor, Alumni Relations, and signature events. Signature events include President's Scholarship Ball, President's EverGREEN Society, Alumni Awards (Homecoming), Presidential Lectures, high-profile donor events, as well as groundbreakings and ribbon-cuttings for major donor-funded initiatives. Develops and implements annual strategic plans, multi-year budgets, and assessment strategies for signature executive events and targeted donor engagements that leverage the goals of Utah Valley University.
- Serves as a leader to the Executive Events team. Participates as an active member of the Institutional Advancement Leadership Team providing relevant and timely information. Aims to build a cross-functional team of event professionals focused on teamwork, transparency, honesty, and exceptional care for event attendees. The candidate is also adept at developing and cultivating relationships both within advancement, internal to the university, and with outside vendors and campus partners.
- Leads out and responsible for working with all UVU campus divisions, departments, and partners who wish to facilitate experiential donor, board members, athletic, Presidential, and other trip experiences that strengthen the relationship and help facilitate affinity between participants and the university. Leads out on all logistics, securing and recommending locations for meaningful and impactful events, negotiating costs with third-party vendors, coordination on hotels, transportation companies, destination management companies, registration and app providers, dining contacts, excursions, and other trip elements.
- Completes other duties as assigned including ongoing and proactive professional development.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the Summary of Duties of the position or Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, plus six years related to the Summary of Duties of the position or any combination of higher education and/or experience totaling ten years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Experience in strategic planning and key performance indicators for proposal development.
- Experience leading and developing a team.
- Strong proficiency with all features of event planning, marketing, and production from inception to post-event assessment (including but not restricted to, budgeting, physical layout, invitation list development, RSVP tracking, seating management, program development and scheduling, ticketing, marketing, promotion, catering, audiovisual services, special needs, event or speaker security).
- A strong commitment and demonstrated understanding of how to build, manage, and lead a team providing direction and mentorship.
- Experience with coordination of events in a complex organization.
- Familiarity with donor development strategy and stewardship.
- Proficiency in office productivity software, including Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency with event vendor negotiation and contracting.
- Familiarity with social networking culture, software, and strategies.
- Understanding of and Knowledge of event production.
- Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
