Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Western Carolina University School of Music welcomes candidate submissions to join our vibrant and historic arts community as Assistant Professor of Music - Percussion. We seek an engaging and accomplished percussionist whose work will model the depth and breadth of musical experiences available to our students in an ever-evolving arts landscape.
This is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Anticipated start of August 2025.
Responsibilities
  • This position requires the ability to recruit and retain a percussion studio of the highest quality via local, regional, and national outreach and performance.
  • Primary teaching duties will include weekly lessons for percussion majors and minors in all degree programs, weekly studio class, and chamber music coaching.
  • Additional teaching duties will complement the School of Music's curricular offerings, possibly including courses in core musicianship, music technology, or music education methods, depending on the candidate's interests and qualifications.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to pursue peer-reviewed scholarship/creative activity in the area of percussion performance
  • Additional responsibilities will include service to the school, college, and university, including student advising and committee work.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:

    Minimum Qualifications: A Master of Music degree in percussion performance or a closely-related field. A record of demonstrated excellence in percussion teaching and performance indicative of the capacity to excel in fulfillment of the above responsibilities.

    Preferred Qualifications: A completed DMA or PhD in Music in hand at the time of application. Postsecondary/collegiate teaching experience in applied percussion.
