Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions
- Basic construction (as needed) to fix items.
- Painting walls: All crit spaces, undergrad/grad studios, offices.
- Basic electrical and plumbing such as repairing broken cords or plugs.
- May assist with basic maintenance on studio equipment from time to time.
- Complete (or assist with) in-house work orders, submit work orders to Operations.
- Check class rooms to make sure items are in working order (lights, chairs, electrical outlets, temperature is not too hot or cold).
- Assist with annual fire violation report to correct any issues.
- Replace bulbs (mostly with projectors or in specific areas).
- Assist with surplus property.
- Manage deliveries to the Art building and art areas of Architecture.
- Assist with locks and lock boxes.
- Install TVs, projectors, projector screens, etc. for faculty, the gallery or IT.
- Distribute premade class signage for each semester.
- Assist with moving furniture and other items on occasion.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic construction, installation, and basic painting skills.
- Ability to patch holes, light maintenance, and report work.
- Assist with deliveries up to 60 lbs.
- Good verbal communication skills to assist faculty, staff, and operations personnel.
- Working knowledge of various tools, such as drill, driver, hammer drill or circular saw) and their safe operation.
- Good organization skills with day-to-day results.
- Essential duties include physical strength, stamina, effective communication, attention to safety, teamwork, and the ability to follow instructions.
