Min T/E Requirements:
Terminal degree in appropriate field (DMA, PhD, EdD, etc.). Evidence of successful professional teaching experience. Must have teaching licensure (will need North Carolina licensure once in position). Ability to lead the Spirit of the Carolinas Marching Band and Pep Band. Ability to teach courses in Music Education, Jazz Studies, Applied Music, or Music Industry. Ability to recruit and retain students is paramount. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.

Job Description:
The Department of Music of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Music to serve as Director of Athletic Bands / Instrumental Music Education. This is a 10-month position that requires additional summer duties related to directing the University Marching Band.
Responsibilities: Serve as Director of Athletic Bands (University Marching Band and University Pep Band); teach courses in Music Education, Jazz Studies, Applied Music, or Music Industry. Maintain an active and collaborative profile within the department and university; develop and maintain a local and regional profile within the profession; develop and maintain contacts with regional teachers, school systems, and professional organizations; keep up to date with stylistic and pedagogical developments in the field; be actively involved in department recruitment activities; participate in appropriate departmental and university-wide activities; additional duties dependent on qualifications of the applicant and departmental needs.

About the Department: The UNCP Department of Music, an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, offers a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre, a Bachelor of Arts in Music with Music Industry Emphasis, a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and minors in Music, Sacred Music, Jazz Studies, Music Business, Musical Theatre, and Media Integration to approximately 100 music majors and minors. There are twelve full-time faculty, fifteen adjunct faculty, and three full-time staff members. Management Preference:
Experience working with public school music programs; demonstrated abilities as a performer, studio teacher, and adjudicator/clinician; experience as a student advisor. The proven ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from various backgrounds and cultures is highly valued.
