Description
The Project on the Corrupting Effect of Political Connections at Georgetown University invites applications for a research or post-doctoral fellow during the 2025-2026 academic year. The project aims to generate high-quality, generalizable quantitative evidence on whether and how political connections lead to corruption in public procurement, especially in situations of crisis and emergencies. It also strives to evaluate the conditions under which conflict-of-interest regulations are effective in curbing corruption in public procurement. The project involves working with origjnal data from the disclosures of financial interests by office holders and large-scale data on public procurement in a dozen developing and developed countries. The fellow will be tasked with analyzing the data using a variety of cutting-edge research designs and techniques, collaborating on coauthored research papers with the project's Principal Investigators, and drafting a policy report. In addition, the fellow will get the opportunity to engage with policy makers and NGOs through the dissemination of research findings.
The position will start on July 15th, 2025, and run for 12 months. The Fellow will receive a twelve-month salary of approximately $51,500. The fellowship is in-person. By the beginning of the fellowship, the fellow is expected to either be in their last year or to have graduated from a PhD program in political science, economics, public policy, or related fields. The fellow is expected to have substantive interest in corruption, governance, and political economy. The fellow is also expected to have strong methodological and coding skills (in particular R, Python and possibly Stata), experience working with large datasets, and an already established record of writing research papers.
