Job Summary:
The University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine is seeking a talented full-time Associate Director of Communications. This position is responsible for leading and managing the Communications Shared Services team within the Dean's Office. This position will work with the Director of Communications for the School of Medicine to develop and support the communications and marketing strategies for the School of Medicine.
The Associate Director of Communications must exhibit exceptional attention to detail with experience in communications, marketing, writing, brand development, building/managing collaborative teams, media relations, budget preparation, and analytics and reporting. The position is a hybrid in-person and remote work model, and it requires excellent project management abilities in a fast-paced environment.
This leadership position on the CU School of Medicine communications team will support the goals of the Dean's Office and work to connect and strengthen the communications between the school and its departments, divisions, and centers.
Key Responsibilities:
Leading and managing the Communications Shared Services team (80%)
- Provides leadership in the development of a communications and marketing plan for the School of Medicine while contributing to day-to-day operations.
- Manages Communication Shares Services team to support communications and marketing efforts across departments, divisions, and centers.
- Develops, implements, and monitors project calendars, budgets, systems, and processes that are necessary for the effective operation of the communications and marketing functions.
- Evaluates and measures outcomes for communications and marketing.
- Works in collaboration with the Director of Communications and campus communications and marketing professionals to produce and execute plans, campaigns, and initiatives.
- Writes, edits, and oversees content for communications materials, including social media, newsrooms, publications, and newsletters for internal and external audiences.
- Ensures working knowledge of enterprise-wide CRM, email marketing tools, and event management and registration tools to guide staff and support the user community.
- Coordinates graphic design, photography, and videography services related to communication deliverables.
- Ensures consistency with CU branding across all School of Medicine messages and digital/printed collateral materials.
- Oversees the development and management of a centralized School of Medicine communications, marketing, and brand library.
Collaboration and best practices (20%)
- Monitors communications landscape and educates team members, researchers, faculty, staff, and students on the latest trends and best practices.
- Builds and maintains relationships with faculty, staff, trainees, and students within the School of Medicine.
- Collaborate with colleagues at CU Anschutz Medical Campus, UCHealth, Children's Hospital Colorado, Veterans Affairs, and other partners as appropriate.
- Identify and implement best practices regarding communication practices, strategies, and tools.
- Attend campus communications meetings as needed.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, business, or other related fields.
- 5-7 years of experience working in communications, public relations, marketing, or advertising, preferably in health care or higher education.
- Experience with project management, prioritization, timelines, and ensuring on-time deliverables.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience with a public research university, academic medical campus, or university-level communications unit.
- Experience developing communications and marketing plans.
- Experience with communications and marketing tools, Google Analytics, and analyzing metrics.
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative market research and analysis techniques.
- Experience with managing vendor relationships, project management, timelines, and ensuring on-time deliverables.
- Additional training/professional development in the following areas: social media strategy and implementation, writing for the web, CRM systems, email marketing, search engine optimization, content management systems, HTML, and video editing.
- Experience with graphic design, photography, videography, and video editing.
- Knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional independent writing skills and experience developing clear, concise, and key message-focused communications.
- Excellent knowledge of editing and grammar, including AP style.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to operate from a broad perspective with the ability to recognize and strengthen interrelationships among educational, clinical, research, and administrative programs.
- Highly organized and dependable; able to multitask, work quickly, and effectively manage numerous deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently capture the voice of a brand/person.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Dedicated to producing excellent work and excellent customer service.
- Able to work with all levels of the team, including experience with leaders and staff.
- Possesses basic design/layout and presentation development skills using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience with developing and managing budgets related to marketing and communications.
- Knowledge of current communications and marketing tools and best practices.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $85,188 to $108,359.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
