Job Summary
The Department of Media Studies, of the College of Media, Communication, and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder, invites applications for a non-tenure track assistant teaching professor.
The successful candidate will have experience developing/delivering large undergraduate lecture courses. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to teach Media Studies (MDST) 1003, Critical Media Literacies: an introductory course intended primarily for non-majors, which the department intends to relaunch in Fall 2026
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to: teach other existing undergraduate courses in the department, commensurate with their area(s) of expertise; bridge core theoretical concepts with hands-on media practices; and contribute to the unit's mission of fostering critical, creative, and inclusive approaches to media studies.
Finally, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach new undergraduate courses in media studies on topics such as:
- Global Media, with a focus on East and/or South Asia
- Screen Cultures, including Anime and/or other global screen industries
- Digital Production Cultures, including platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, and/or media formats such as podcasting

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Teach 6 courses per academic year (3 courses each Spring and Fall semester)
- Work closely with and mentor graduate student teaching assistants
- Contribute to departmental and other professional service activities
- The typical distribution of work for this role is 75% teaching and 25% leadership and service
What You Should Know
- This is a non-tenure track position with a focus on excellence in pedagogy. It is renewable after three years and typically promotion eligible after six years on continuous appointment
- The anticipated start date is August 2025
What We Can Offer
The expected salary range is $63,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

What We Require
- Terminal degree (PhD, MFA, or equivalent) in hand by the start date
- At least two (2) years of teaching experience as instructor of record in higher education, with evidence of excellence in pedagogy
What You Will Need
- Experience teaching and working with a large, diverse student body
- Experience teaching with multimedia resources, large lecture classroom management, and working in a dynamic research and teaching environment
- A commitment to departmental, university, and professional service
- A commitment to developing/delivering introductory and upper-division courses in media studies
- A commitment to working closely with and mentoring graduate student teaching assistants
