Job Summary

Provide mentoring and advisement for a cohort of graduate students to assist in goal setting, academic planning, and career exploration through personal follow-up/outreach, individual appointments, and programming.

Responsibilities

The duties included, but are not limited to:



COMPREHENSIVELY MONITOR STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND TRANSIT: Assist in the development and audit of academic plans. Advice on course selection. Track adherence to a degree plan to ensure timely progression towards graduation. Audit own practices to ensure consistency in department objectives.

ESTABLISH A DEVELOPMENTAL ADVISING RELATIONSHIP WITH STUDENTS: Communicate regularly with students regarding academic progress, important deadlines, and other standard advisement procedures. Create, edit, and distribute appropriate communications regarding target initiatives. Provide students with documentation to re-cap and remind them of items discussed. Communicate regularly with faculty and Chairs/Deans in the academic programs in which you advise. Serve as a key worker with special target populations/initiatives.

PROFESSIONALLY REPRESENT AND PROMOTE THE DEPARTMENT: Manage rapport with academic departments and enrollment management areas to keep abreast of policies and programs to ensure accuracy in the dissemination of information to students and to team members. Develop programs with Academic Advisement and collaborative areas. Serve as a key worker for programs/systems as requested. Assist in training advisors and student employees in departmental initiatives.

UPDATE AND MAINTAIN DETAILED RECORDS AND REPORTING OF STUDENTS: Assist in the assessment of programs, services, and tools regularly to track progress towards department /college goals and coordinate initiatives with advisor team members. Demonstrate knowledge and competence in academic advising procedures, policies, and technology systems. Serve as a key worker for programs/special projects.

CONTINUALLY IMPROVE ACADEMIC ADVISING SKILLS AND PRACTICES: Continually improve academic advising skills and practices through the ongoing use of training tools, professional associations, and engagement in researching best practices.

FUNCTION COOPERATIVELY WITHIN A TEAM FORMAT: Regularly contribute to the development of the department and college. Provide cooperative support for all departmental programming to meet goals. Maintain a positive work environment by coordinating schedules with other staff and faculty, communicating regularly with faculty and staff regarding projects, and providing and soliciting assistance as needed. Manage time effectively to maximize service to students and to fulfill departmental and college goals.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with experience in a university setting providing advisement or student support.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Knowledge of advisement theories and practices to help students achieve success

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills



ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to make sound judgments and identify solutions; demonstrate consistent use of proper English, grammar, and punctuation; develop and maintain professional relationships; work independently and in a team environment; and meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment

All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.
