Job Description
Financial Analyst - Finance & Administration
University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI)
The University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) seeks a full-time Financial Analyst to provide advanced financial planning, budgeting, and data analysis in support of institutional decision-making. This position is responsible for conducting complex financial modeling, variance analysis, and strategic planning to optimize UTSI's financial performance.
The Financial Analyst serves as the primary data specialist for financial reporting and forecasting, utilizing multiple data sources and analytical tools to support the Executive Director of Finance & Administration in making data-driven decisions. The role also ensures compliance with university financial policies and external reporting requirements while continuously improving and automating existing financial processes.
Responsibilities
Data Collection & Reporting (40%)
- Extract and analyze academic, financial, and workforce data to support decision-making.
- Develop ad hoc reports for leadership, tracking key metrics such as enrollment, faculty productivity, and budget utilization.
- Build and maintain long-term financial projections, including multi-year budget planning scenarios.
Budget Monitoring & Analysis (25%)
- Track actual versus budget variances and provide financial insights for corrective action.
- Develop predictive models for revenue and expenditure forecasting.
- Support data visualization efforts using Power BI, Tableau, Argos, and other analytics tools.
Budget Development & Implementation (20%)
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for UTSI's DASH budgeting system.
- Assist in preparing annual budget proposals, integrating institutional priorities and financial forecasts.
- Work with university leadership to develop financial strategies for resource allocation.
Financial Forecasting & Scenario Modeling (10%)
- Perform trend analysis and financial scenario modeling to assess the impact of different budget strategies.
- Develop real-time budget forecasts, adjusting for economic shifts and institutional priorities.
Data Management & Governance (5%)
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security in financial reporting.
- Establish protocols for data governance and compliance with university standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Data Science, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of financial analysis experience, including budgeting and modeling
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, DASH, Adaptive Insights) and business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau, Argos, etc.).
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Four to six (4-6) years of experience in higher education finance. Experience with ERP systems (SAP, DASH, Adaptive Insights) and business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau, Argos, etc.).
