Job Description Summary
The Annenberg School for Communication (ASC) is a unique place at Penn. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, the Designer is responsible for all graphic design needs of the school. This includes the design, user experience, and content management of school-wide websites. This position is responsible for front-end web content layout and design work, including fulfilling website update requests and assisting with interface design. The Designer will bring strong creative, technical, and problem-solving skills to translate concepts into interaction and design solutions. The Designer also works with members of the Annenberg School's Office of Communications and IT team, as well as many other stakeholders throughout the school, to design and/or provide design recommendations, layout and final drafts, of web pages and other application interfaces, and all school marketing/event collateral.

Job Responsibilities
  • Create user-centered designs for websites; designs visual layouts; generate graphics; build templates to maintain brand identity according to design guidelines and usability standards.
  • Create innovative approaches to improving the end-user experience. Assure web accessibility for people with disabilities.
  • Assist in designing interface elements of applications and features.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and programmers to build, maintain, and update CMS websites using HTML(5)/CSS(3).
  • Participate in determining requirements for new websites and applications.
  • Serve as the main designer for all manner of school collateral, including program books, email graphics, event graphics, posters, logos, and academic publications.
  • Follow the school's style guides and procedures to ensure conformity with school style.
  • Maintain in-house television screens with continually updated visual content.
  • Assist with social media, for overall branding of Annenberg's social media channels.
  • Order and manage the school's inventory of logoed merchandise and coordinate its distribution.
  • Monitor ASC-internal intake/outtake forms and work with new arrivals to create website profiles and ensure that the school's website and all of its internal lists are consistently updated.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience in graphic design, IT, and/or related fields, and relevant experience designing and developing websites or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must be passionate about crafting visual experiences. Demonstrated knowledge of front-end web development and experience with building and maintaining websites required. CMS experience required. Experience with social media platforms required.
  • Proven sense of design, with the ability to translate it into digital interfaces; strong typography and layout skills. Strong technical abilities and a proven track record of creative use of technology to solve problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively. Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with all of the constituencies comprising the school community.
