Detailed Description:
This position has the daily responsibility for all Media Circulation Desk and distribution of media equipment. Responsible for all audiovisual equipment upkeep of the inventory and equipment in circulation and the oversight and scheduling of the student employees of the Circulation Desk Set-up, operate, and troubleshoot all equipment, devices, and systems. This position also has the responsibility for assisting with video production, classroom technology support, and events. The incumbent would be responsible for overseeing the circulation of media materials and providing technical support for audiovisual equipment. Duties include managing the media library, coordination and scheduling of the AV equipment setup for the classrooms, meetings and events. Providing technical support and training to the student employees and the end users.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Daily oversight of the Media Center circulation desk and satellite storage and distribution rooms
  • Maintain loaner laptops (Mac and PC), including updating and staging to prepare PC's for circulation.
  • Assist with A/V equipment booking, scheduling, circulation and inventory using the Sierra catalog system.
  • Maintain campus wide media inventory for upkeep, repair. or check out.
  • Conduct demonstrations of equipment operation to faculty and students.
  • Scheduling and coordination of equipment requirements for other departments.
  • Execute deliveries and pickup of A/V equipment.
  • Responsible for application of late fees, communication and follow up with users.
  • Providing recurring reports on the activities and stats of the checkout equipment.
  • Update of the AV inventory system with each classroom refresh cycle (barcode and EMS updates).
  • In collaboration with manager, plans for the upgrade of the equipment of the media library.
  • Setting up and configuring AV equipment (projectors, Mics, Speakers, etc).
  • Troubleshooting technical issues related to the AV equipment/systems.
  • Maintaining and updating equipment inventory and ensuring that all equipment are properly maintained and functional.
  • Providing technical training to users of the loaners.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of events, meetings, and presentations.
  • Assist with circulation desk staffing and coverage.
  • Perform daily maintenance of database for all media center equipment including its repair history.
  • Perform daily maintenance of database for all classroom media equipment including its repair history.
  • Maintenance and readiness of all media equipment for check out (loaner computers, camera and other AV tools).
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of classroom media equipment.
  • Complete weekly walks of classrooms to verify all are in working order and have proper documentation. Plans for future A/V needs of the campus by researching new available technologies and collecting, compiling and analyzing a variety of data from both inside and outside the organization.
  • Provide recommendations to leadership on equipment inventory and purchasing.
  • Creates and analyzes customer satisfaction and need surveys.
  • Writes procedure and training manuals and updates.
  • General clerical duties associated with circulation supervision.

Training
  • Interviewing, recommending for hire, training, scheduling and supervision of up to 15 student workers per semester and through University Intersessions.
  • Coordinates student workers & work study students' academic schedule with Media Center operations.
  • Creates and updates Media Center training manuals and procedures.
  • Coaching, onboarding and training of the student staff.

Video Production Technician
  • Completes editing assignments in a timely manner using non-linear editing software producing final project in desired format.
  • Provides instruction and demonstration to faculty and students of the media center editing stations.
  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of professional broadcast standards and production techniques.
  • Provides recommendations for production equipment and purchasing.
  • Assist and support of any academic events with video productions (including pre-post planning).

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be able to work extended days and/or weekends (overtime).
  • Must be able to report for work very early in the morning or very late at night

Background check: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree required
  • 2 or more years of experience with AV and digital production or related field required.
  • A High School Diploma and 1 year of additional year of work experience may substitute for Associate degree. Must be extremely accurate in maintaining a variety of computer and paper records including inventory and demonstrate the ability to handle confidential client and employment information with tact and discretion.
  • Must be able to keep track of simultaneous activities across the campus.
  • Must be flexible in scheduling to provide evening and weekend coverage.
  • A service-oriented work style.
  • Must be willing to drive University or personal vehicle to off-campus locations if needed. This position requires a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the University with a workday starting as early as 7:00am and finishing as late as 10:00pm. Actual schedule is dictated by university events and assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience working in a higher education technology or media services department is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have excellent customer-service skills and possess excellent human relations skills. Must be able to communicate and articulate University and Media Services policies to clients and address clients' needs.
  • Must have a wide variety of video production skills including: Camera operation and editing.
  • Must be courteous and diplomatic.
  • Must be able to initiate policy and procedural changes to improve customer and University media services. Must have or be willing to acquire the ability and competence to prepare, deliver and operate a variety of audio-visual devices such as, video editors, video/data projectors, and digital cameras.
  • Must be comfortable using desktop computing tools (Windows and Mac).
  • Must be accurate in maintaining computer-based records; knowledge of database software a must.
  • Must be able to work independently and without close supervision.
  • Must keep skills current within the production field.
  • This is not an entry-level position.
