Job Description
This role supervises and manages the receiving, processing, and shipping of merchandise to and from VolShop locations, ensuring accurate inventory handling. Responsibilities include overseeing staff, managing logistics (loading/unloading, pricing, inventory control), maintaining warehouse organization, and training employees. The Assistant Manager also schedules shifts, acts as manager on duty when needed, and operates warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, for merchandise deliveries.


Responsibilities
Supervises the receiving area, managing the intake and verification of shipments against purchase orders and invoices. Accurately records receiving reports and documents any discrepancies, including shortages or damaged items, while preparing necessary reports. Provides responsive customer service to internal and external stakeholders, addressing issues and resolving concerns efficiently. Actively participates in inventory management, including stock control functions and cycle counts, to maintain accurate inventory levels. Ensures timely processing and distribution of standard, priority, and urgent orders to VolShop locations.

Serves as the "manager on duty" in the absence of the Distribution Center Supervisor, overseeing daily operations and ensuring smooth workflow. Assists with opening and closing procedures, as well as coordinating employee work schedules to maintain operational efficiency. Supports the Distribution Manager in the recruitment process, including interviewing and hiring DC Associates, student employees, and seasonal staff. Additionally, receives cross-training to provide support in the eCommerce department within the Distribution Center as needed.

Supports the Distribution Center Manager in training staff, ensuring employees are well-versed in warehouse procedures, handheld devices, and replenishment processes. Conducts onboarding and training sessions for new hires to promote efficiency and adherence to operational standards. Identifies opportunities for process improvement and assists in implementing best practices to enhance workflow and productivity. Maintains accurate records of work hours for full-time, temporary, and student employees, entering time data into the appropriate timekeeping system.

Operates warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts, to facilitate the movement of inventory. Transports event trailers and drives a delivery truck as needed to support distribution operations. Maintains a clean and organized warehouse environment to ensure safety and efficiency. Assists with merchandise deliveries and performs additional duties as assigned to support overall Distribution Center operations.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED

At least 3 years of experience in a modern Distribution Center.

Experience in supervising employees.

Be able to use a pallet jack, operate a forklift, drive and move event trailers.

Must be able to drive a delivery truck.

PREFERED REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Vocational or technical training

At least 5 years of experience in a modern Distribution Center performing most duties with a focus on receiving.
