Augusta University Libraries seeks a faculty member at the rank of Instructor to serve as an Online Learning Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Reese Library, the Online Learning Librarian is charged with enhancing online instruction for the information literacy program of AU Libraries. A key aspect of this position is expanding the Libraries' online presence within the learning management system and in developing library tutorials and digital learning objects. The Online Learning Librarian works collaboratively with other library staff, liaison librarians, Directors, and the Dean to develop and implement the Augusta University Libraries' online teaching strategy. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and assess accessible and creative e-learning materials, including videos, tutorials, research guides, and course modules
- Advise the library's collection team about the acquisition of new online collections that would benefit online education students.
- Serve as liaison librarian to AU Online and liaise with other campus offices supporting instruction, learning initiatives, and accessibility, especially the center for Instructional Innovation.
- Develop a suite of services connecting subject area liaisons with course instructors and instructional technologists to include collection development as needed and facilitate the use of library instructional materials in the Course Management System (D2L) and other online environments
- Participate in the core public services functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement, and instructional assessment.
- Ensure accessibility in compliance with ADA guidelines and University standards
- Collect, share, and use assessment data to prioritize future creation projects and identify other priority areas in online learning.
- Participate in the on-campus instruction program as needed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.
- Provide general and in-depth reference services (consultations and virtual reference) to online learners and specialized research consultations to faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students in key discipline areas.
Required Qualifications
MLS Degree from an ALA accredited institution by June 30, 2025
Ability to design online learning objects
Ability to collect and report on statistical data
Instructor - Entry level position with 0-2 years of experience
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of instructional technologies to support classroom and remote or asynchronous instruction
- Experienced developing online assessment tools.
- Experience working effectively with varying user groups.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The anticipated range for Librarian Instructors is $65,000-$70,000/year. The salary is subject to availability of funds
