THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN (32 HOURS PER WEEK)
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Knoxville Academic Coordinator supports the students enrolled in the didactic portion of the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy, Knoxville campus. The position ensures seamless curricular delivery for the Knoxville campus students that fosters a culture of student learning. The position provides curricular support for active learning and skills lab oversight and instruction as requested.
Responsibilities
- Implements active learning plans with course directors and instructors across three campuses, assuring that Knoxville campus students are engaged and receiving comparable experiences for learning experiences that are either multi-campus (distance learning technology) or single campus in collaboration with the Assistant Dean with Curricular Affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs, and campus Associate Deans.
- Provides direct instruction for Knoxville campus students, including small and large group teaching in classroom and skills lab settings, facilitating active learning or case discussions, and assessing pharmacy practice-related skills.
- Facilitates Knoxville campus classroom activities when faculty instructors are leading active learning, often from other campuses.
- Creates and maintains engaging active learning classroom and skills lab environments ensuring all needed materials are available for each session and technology is operational.
- Conducts and proctors quizzes or other assessments in the classroom or lab environment.
- Coordinates Knoxville campus learning labs, exam reviews, remediations, study skills sessions, early intervention meetings, proctor assignments, active learning campus facilitators, and faculty, staff, or teaching assistants supporting active learning in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs and the UT Health Science Center Office of Student Success.
- Assists faculty and the Office of Academic Affairs with the scheduling and proctoring of assessments, including exams, quizzes, and OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Exams).
- Ensures classroom procedures are consistent with College policies and procedures, notifying the Assistant Dean for Curricular Affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs, and/or campus Associate Dean with any areas of concern.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharma. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of pharmacy practice experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Expectations and knowledge of what pharmacy students need to know and be able to do to be prepared for Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE Ready).
- Ability to facilitate active learning and teach the skills of a pharmacist and support student pharmacists in their educational endeavors.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of appropriate medication use and pharmacy practice.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities including speaking to groups or individuals.
- Knowledge of ACPE accreditation requirements (including related documents), NAPLEX Content Outline, UTHSC and College resources for students and faculty.
- Ability to present material in a clear, student-centered way, adapted to student or faculty needs.
- Ability to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner with attention to detail.
- Computer software/technology skills (Qualtrics, Microsoft365 apps), educational technology skills (technology used for classroom assessment techniques, distance learning, student engagement).
