Primary Purpose of Position:
The Department of Criminal Justice is seeking applications to fill a nine-month tenure-track faculty position (F610765) at the Assistant or Associate Professor level starting fall 2025 academic year. The selected candidate will be expected to teach, engage in research that leads to publications, and engage in service with the Department and University Community consistent with the Faculty Workload Policy.Criminal Justice is the largest undergraduate program at NCCU, and it is projected to grow at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position is essential to the department's efforts to support all undergraduate programs (face-to-face and online) and the graduate program (Hyflex), a priority of both the University and department.
Minimum Education/Experience:
A doctorate in Criminal Justice or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Applicants must have at least 18 Doctoral-level hours in Criminal Justice or related discipline. ABD candidates will not be considered. A Juris Doctorate does not qualify for the position.
To be considered for the position of Associate Professor, the ideal candidate must demonstrate evidence of meeting the established criteria for teaching, research, and service at the associate level, in alignment with the expectations set by the department, college, and university.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to teach, conduct research that leads to peer-reviewed publications, and participate in service activities.Key teaching responsibilities will include advanced technological expertise in teaching statistical and research methods, along with strong written and interpersonal communication skills. The ideal candidate should be proficient in utilizing Canvas or similar learning management systems to deliver course instruction. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, in-person, online, and hyflex utilizing open educational resources. The role also involves curriculum development and assessment at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and mentoring graduate students in their thesis and project work.Key research responsibilities for the ideal candidate include engaging in peer-reviewed scholarly activities to meet the promotion and tenure requirements. In addition, the ideal candidate will show the potential to engage in externally funded research to include collaboration with the Institute for Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Juvenile Justice Institute within the department.In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, the faculty member will be expected to participate in service activities within the Department, University, and their academic or professional fields.Finally, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues to promote student learning and success in a diverse environment is essential. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required for this role.

All areas of specialization will be considered. Individuals with teaching specialization in Research Methods and Statistics are encouraged to apply.
